Tip: When the word "warlord" is used to smear a government official appointed to his post by the only internationally recognized, democratically elected parliament of #Libya, it's a pretty good sign that the rest of the article will also contain other Islamist propaganda and lies
1/2) Patient X of Libya related fake news: Both terrorist orgs such as Al-Qaeda+Qatari-funded outlets first used the term "warlord," "Kafir,"+"Zionist" (classic) to smear Haftar, appointed by the parliament to combat #Libya's terrorist and militia problem and restore sovereignty.
2/2) Fake news first planted in Qatari funded outlets, including AJ, are then picked up by "copy+paste" Western press, think tank, institutions funded by Qatar and disseminated by powerful agencies such as Mercury, also funded by #Qatar. [cont]
Islamists also directly feed fake news to sympathetic journalists who either don't know any better or are incentivised via access to interviews. This fake news behemoth which instrumentalized social media effectively was set up in #Libya since '11: salon.com/2016/09/16/u-k…
And there's the beauty of Doha's strategy: the richest country in the world funds both Islamist proxies and the people who are supposed to be writing about them -whether in media outlets, universities or think tanks. The net-effect is deception and compromised threat perception.
Example to illustrate how sustained propaganda will result in mainstreaming Kafkaeque characterizations of actors on the ground in #Libya. Compare/contrast these 2 articles
Actors in Article 1 combat the actors in Article 2
The major pivot in western press towards the adoption of radical Islamist lexicon began most notably in '17, after major Gulf states cut ties with #Qatar for its sponsorship of terorrist organizations. This embarassing excommunication sparked a propaganda war and shopping spree.
Major powers of Arab world were divided roughly along the lines of states who opposed radical Islamist ideology and those who did. LY's elected parliam't+army,Egypt, Jordan, UAE, KSA on one side...[cont]
and Qatar+ Ghanouchi's Tunisia on the other side, who lacking allies among their own, allied with Islamist Turkey+Iran and all terror proxies in between.

1. Dismantle the militia cartel in the capital. Read more about them here: swp-berlin.org/en/publication… 2. Enforce oversight on CBL 3. Remove all foreign mercenaries 4. Ensure free and fair elections in Dec.
The following is an excellent thread giving but a snapshot of what I like to call the "crime-terror-government nexus" in #Libya and how public funds were used to finance terrorist organizations that terrorized Libyans and the American missions too.
Speaking of #Libya's frozen funds, meet Imaad Zuberi. Only one among many vultures: "What follows is the swampy tale of a man who thought he knew how Washington really worked — and how his dream of becoming a D.C. insider turned into a legal" nightmare." politico.com/news/2021/02/1…
I expect @Reuters to update and correct their article accordingly. Perhaps next time, they can also engage in the old school tradition of fact-checking before serving as an amplifier for the delusions of a corrupt politician who has a record of lies as long as his convoy. #Libya
While this latest proliferation of fake news is a damning testimony on how GNA figures have long and comfortably relied on outlets and hacks to regurgitate their lies, I can't help but find this particular piece of theatre to be absolutely comic:
