Why is @bellingcat helping Moscow & Minsk pursue the narrative that the captured Belarusian dissident Roman Protasevich is a neo-Nazi?
EVEN IF HE IS - which everyone who knows him says he absolutely is not - THIS IS NOT THE STORY. Only Putin & Lukashenko want you to think it is.
Russia and Belarus (let’s not kid ourselves that Belarus did this on its one) hijacked a plane to kidnap and jail a journo critical of the evil Lukashenko regime. They want to distract from the air piracy and detention of a dissident who may very likely be killed by the state.
THAT is the story. Two evil, rogue, terrorist, authoritarian regimes manufacture cause to detain and then torture and kill those who dare to utter a critical word. Not that who they detained could be anything the regimes claim about him to distract from their criminality.
In this case, it is especially troubling that groups like Bellingcat are pursuing a story beneficial to Lukashenko because it is based on the foundational Kremlin LIE that Ukrainians are neo-Nazis. Protasevich is being accused of same because of supposed connections to Ukraine.
One of Moscow’s biggest & most successful lies about Ukraine is that the country, and its 2014 Revolution of Dignity, are nothing more than hateful neonazi extremists. Many western journos have helped pushed this lie for years, doing “deep dives” on patriots to discredit them.
Many people who volunteered to go to the front lines and defend the country when Russia first militarily invaded Ukraine in 2014 were rapidly portrayed as evil extremists. This was to discredit any defence against RU’s bloody and unprovoked war of aggression.
Battalions formed by volunteers to fight Russia and protect Ukraine at a time when Ukraine’s military was totally gutted by the corrupt, runaway, pro-Russian president Yanukovych (who Putin is hiding in Russia to this day). Protasevich is being linked to one of these battalions.
This particular battalion has been the focus on many a Kremlin story on how they are a bunch of neonazis. Many a western journo has carried water for the Kremlin, “investigating” the people who helped defend Ukraine when it could barely defend itself.
In addition to distracting everyone from the REAL story of a dissident journalist being abducted off a hijacked plane by a rogue regime, asking whether he’s “extremist” because he MAY have supported Ukrainians against Russian aggression also helps fuel the “Ukraine is Nazi” lie.
There is literally no value in spending time looking into whether Roman Protasevich may or may not have been a supporter of Ukrainian volunteers defending the country when it was at its weakest and most vulnerable against unprovoked aggressor Russia.
The only parties who benefit from looking into such possible connections - to help paint THE VICTIM as a guy who we shouldn’t care was pulled from a pirated plane by an authoritarian regime which is a client state of Moscow’s - are in Moscow and Minsk.
It’s nothing more than Kremlin distraction designed to make people not care about the victim of state violence and repression, and to breathe life into propaganda lies about Ukraine when Russia looks to be upping violence.

So why the hell is Bellingcat supporting this endeavour?
Also, if Protesevich DID have any involvement with the Ukrainian volunteer battalion, the only thing we should be saying about it is that he clearly supports the victims of Moscow’s hatred, illegal violence, oppression, and destruction.

It is seriously messed up that two hours a day is considered “limited” screen time for a toddler or child. That is an incredibly long period of time per day in a two year old’s life, and even in the day of a six year old.
We have allowed ourselves to be conned that there is “good” programming that is “educational” and so “valuable” learning tools for a child. As if we cannot teach children their ABC’s and 1,2,3’s without screens.
It reminds me a little of the “must” food that is a staple in many a home with infants and young children - puffed o’s like Cheerios. An “essential” for infants to develop their pincer grasp. How oh how did babies EVER learn to pick anything up before Cheerios?

People need to be reminded that Putin CHOSE the path of confrontation and of aggression. Putin CHOSE to shatter peace. He CHOSE to sow chaos. He CHOSE to rule a mafia state as an authoritarian. He CHOSE this path totally unprovoked.
After the collapse of the USSR, the West rolled out the red carpet to Moscow. There was no Nuremberg equivalent for Moscow’s multiple genocides. Russia was included in intl orgs which it had no business being in as it hadn’t met the requirements. And western money showered RU.
Putin had NO legitimate cause whatsoever to CHOOSE the path of aggression and confrontation. He chose it because he wanted absolute power, money, control, and status on the world stage. To date, we can see Russia doesn’t have the patience - or ambition - to evolve to that point.

If Putin wanted peace, he wouldn’t wage war

If he wanted friendship, he wouldn’t invade peaceful neighbours or launch terrorist attacks on foreign soil

If he cared about human rights, his regime wouldn’t be repressive

If he wanted transparency, he wouldn’t run a mafia state
If Putin wanted Ukraine to exist as a sovereign independent nation, and enjoy peaceful coexist with his neighbour, he wouldn’t be doing everything to destroy the country.

If Putin believed he couldn’t get away with it, he wouldn’t continue.
The Western world pretends Russia isn’t a rogue terrorist authoritarian mafia regime, and can be reasoned with.

One would think that after all these years of trying the same unsuccessful approach with spectacular failure, the West would try a different way.

A lot of people won’t like this, but oh well.

I think most Ukrainians do not realize just how much the Soviets stripped and destroyed of Ukrainian language, culture, and tradition. Generations were Sovietized to such an extent that much was lost, especially in larger cities.
Many (not all) Ukrainians simply are unaware of how old, extensive, & rich UA culture is. The Soviets did such a good job of breeding a sense of inferiority that even what has remained is often not sufficiently valued, & eagerly cast off for “superior” Western commercial culture.
Many Asian cultures are prized, and admired by outsiders. If more Ukrainians only knew how incredible and interesting many aspects of their tradition and culture are, they would cherish them more, do everything to boost, preserve, and protect all of it.

Oh, no, no. The President of #Ukraine is surely wrong, and all those journalists who know shit about Ukraine, the international organizations that are too compromised or cowardly to speak the truth because it demands action, etc. know better. 🙄

In all seriousness, just think about how profoundly twisted this is. #Ukraine has stated unambiguously that #Russia is waging an unlawful interstate war on Ukraine, and NOT ONE body of political note or power will even acknowledge this basic truth!
This is precisely why @RomanSohn and I demand that the EU & NATO *finally* lead & call things by their names, and clearly and unambiguously recognize the patently obvious truth, that #Russia is the aggressor in an unlawful, interstate war against #Ukraine.
