Breaking: #Taiwan reported 585 #COVID19 cases in total, 364 new local cases and 219 backlogged cases and 2 imported cases.
The backlogged cases have increased once again and Chen said some are already in the hospital, some are already in quarantine but some still need to be handled.
Chen said it seems like there is another climax and he said there are a few signs that the current outbreak is concerning.
Miaoli County has 34 new cases, which is a cluster case from a communal dorm for migrant workers that work for a electronic factory.
CECC will now offer support for Miaoli and try to contain the cluster outbreak extended from the migrant workers' dorm.
Chen said the percentage of young people being infected has increased. Over the last two days, the percentage of young people being infected increased from lower than 20% to 25%. He said this may seem to suggest that young people have become complacent.
Chen said it doesn't mean that the lower percentage among a certain population doesn't mean that they won't be infected. He is urging people between 20 to 39 to reduce their group gathering to the minimum.
Since next weekend is another long weekend, he is calling on people to refrain from traveling home and refrain from long-distance traveling. He is calling on the Ministry of Transportation to reduce the percentage of long distance traveling to around 20%.
Chen said long-distance moving could potentially spread the #COVID19 outbreak even further. He said the long weekend, which is the dragon boat festival, also could see people gathering at local markets. He is calling on people from lingering at local markets.
He said if the method of separating customers or people into different groups for shopping isn't working, maybe officials should consider not letting people to go shopping.
More than 56,000 people have been vaccinated and these are all through the government-subsidized program.
There are three cases of serious reactions to the vaccine, all of them are blood-clotting.
There are also 17 deaths today, a slight increase again from the last few days.
The CECC said they require all kinds of nursing homes or long-term care facilities to report their #COVID19 situation.
He said this in a very brief fashion but I think what he is trying to say is that they will have to re-evaluate the existing crowd-control measures and see if they can come up with other ways.
Chen said the most official case of civil society organizations trying to acquire #COVID19 vaccine is the case of Terry Gou's foundation. He said they were the most serious.
Chen said the government has been trying to engage with Johnson and Johnson, which they have directly told the Central News Agency that they are telling governments to seek their vaccines through COVAX. He said there are no channel for civil society groups to seek JJ vaccines.
Chen said the government needs a detailed document from the original manufacturer to prove that they will offer how many vaccines to a certain organization, so they can avoid entering a deal that won't come to fruition in the end.
P.S. There will be instances when I won't be able to translate everything super clearly right away because of the speed that the whole presser is proceeding, so if there are anything not clear enough, please don't overreact.
There was a case of a patient with PCR positive test being allowed to board a flight to Xiamen. The journalist is now asking about that.
The case was later found to be caused by the mistake on the part of the ground staff of the airline. cna.com.tw/news/firstnews…
The CECC said the airline only checked the health declaration form and the patient checked "asymptomatic," leading to the airline's misjudgment.
The guy who used a knife to attack three medical staff a few days ago reportedly continue to spit on the ground and curse at medical staff when they went over to clear up the spits. The journalist is asking how the CECC can ensure the safety of medical staff.
CECC said they will ask police stations to increase their communication with hospitals and they need to immediately head to the hospital when they receive any report. Hospitals are being asked ...
The patient will now be moved to another specialized ward.
Chen said once the next batch of vaccines arrived, the government will continue to expand their vaccination list to other priority groups.
The CECC said the number of backlogged cases has increased again and they learned that the central test processing center has been trying to ask other testing units to increase their reporting speed.
So they are basically attributing the growing number simply to the reporting speed again. I....don't know what you all think about that.....
The expert said there might be some worrying signs that seem to suggest it could have an uptick again, including several large cluster case, including nursing homes and migrant workers' dorms.
Chen said Taiwan has no room to be optimistic and he said the numbers could potentially suggest that the younger age group might have become a bit complacent.
Chen said the rate of positive case is also slightly dropping, but they still need more cases to have a better assessment.
Chen repeated that measures that are too strict could cause fatigue even faster and it could also hurt the economic activities. He said he will have ongoing discussion with experts.
CECC said all hospitals in Taipei and New Taipei have been conducting testing for all staff, patients and those who are accompanying the patients. They said anyone could be infected in the community and bring the virus to the hospitals.
High risk medical staff will be tested every five to seven days. They have found several cases of medical staff or patients being positive after first being tested negative.
Chen said the CECC is continuing the negotiation for #COVID19 vaccines with different partners and he said there are still difficulties arise through different channels.
He said the supply of #COVID19 is still unstable but the CECC is going to stick to the goal of having 2 million #COVID19 vaccines by the end of June.
The CECC is saying that the amount of Remdesivir can treat more than 1000 patients and there will be more being imported. The CECC's experts have been discussing about when is the best timing for patients to use the drug. There are also other drugs to support treatment.
Alright, that's it. The outbreak seems to have really plateaued and #Taiwan's vaccine acquisition also remains unclear for now. Guess we'll have to wait and see if the government is going to disclose more details in the coming days. See you all tomorrow.

The report said the Japanese government wants to take a route that's outside of the regular international framework and take an active role in facilitating the donation of AZ #COVID19 vaccines to #Taiwan within a short time.
The report suggests that the Japanese government originally wants to donate the vaccines to #Taiwan through COVAX, but that will take a much longer time for the vaccines to reach #Taiwan.
For decades, tens of thousands have gathered annually on June 4 in Hong Kong's Victoria Park, lighting candles and singing songs to remember the victims of the bloody 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.
But the tradition is now in danger of disappearing in Hong Kong. Last week, Hong Kong police banned the annual vigil from taking place, citing pandemic-related prevention measures. This marks the second year in a row that the event can't take place in the city.
