Why would any US senator or member of Congress oppose an independent commission to investigate what led to a deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol—one aimed squarely at undermining American democracy & the peaceful transfer of power?
The reasons are as cynical as they are obvious.
Republicans lied about the election being stolen. That lie helped motivate a white supremacist mob of Trump supporters to smash their way into the Capitol—some with plans to kill Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi—to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s electoral win.
#TheBigLie
The GOP doesn’t want a respected panel of experts publicly connecting the dots heading into the 2022 elections and they don’t want to get on Trump’s bad side by supporting a commission that would show how his lie incited an attack on democracy that left 5 people dead...
#BigLie
100s of police officers injured & countless others traumatized. GOP-led state legislatures all over the country are using #TheBigLie to justify quickly passing bills to significantly restrict voting in ways that would disproportionately hurt communities of color
#VoterSuppression
It’s no coincidence that the 4 states where republicans have filed the most bills aimed at restricting voting—Georgia, Arizona, Michigan & Pennsylvania—were some of the closest states in the 2020 election. All of those states went for Biden & have GOP-controlled legislatures.
It’s also no coincidence that of the 147 House & Senate GOPs who voted in Jan. to overturn the election,139 of them also voted to stop a commission from investigating the insurrection. They have attacked democracy TWICE in plain sight with the intention of preserving #TheBigLie

These recommendations for Mississippi match the guidelines set by the White House Coronavirus Task Force &the CDC. Based on new cases per 100k in the last 7 days (114.4) &positive test rate (7.1%), people in Mississippi are advised to adhere to these recommendations.
@tatereeves Yes hospitalizations & cases are down but not plummeted. While vaccinations seem to be going well it would be a big mistake to stop doing the things that are making us better. We will just recede back to worse numbers again which means more deaths, hospitalizations...
@tatereeves Now if you are capable of being honest, if trump said what Biden is saying you would be tripping all over yourself to follow what he said. But trump wasn’t a leader. The nation is doing much better because of Biden’s leadership; over 450,000 died under trump’s tenure.

March is Women’s History Month, a time when we can educate ourselves on historic moments women fought for &our progress so far along with celebrating women as a whole. What better way to do that than reading books about women by women?

Voter suppression has long been a GOP interest. Ken Cuccinelli has formed a group called the Election Transparency Initiative. Its goal: to make sure election laws aren’t changed to make it easier for people to vote especially people who might vote for Democrats
#VoterSuppression
Its initial focus is on defeating H.R.1, the voting rights bill Democrats hope to pass. The legislation they oppose would create automatic voter registration nationwide, expand early voting, & make it easier to vote by mail. It is the exact opposite of what conservatives want.
Kelley Loeffler has launched her own organization in Georgia, committed to registering Republican voters & seeking “transparency and uniformity in our election process.” Her reasoning is that too few Republicans turned out to vote & too many Democrats did.

Former Guy profoundly altered our system of government. Though he was no Washington or Lincoln, Trump, with the help of #GOPComplicitTraitors amended the “informal” Constitution in at least 5 significant ways.

Amendment 1. No president shall be removed from office for treason, bribery or any crime or misdemeanor should a partisan minority of the Senate choose to protect him. Impeachment was intended to be a check on presidential misbehavior;it’s now more like a partisan permission slip
Amendment 2. Congressional oversight shall be optional. No congressional subpoena or demand for testimony or documents shall bind a president who chooses to ignore it. From now on, if the president stonewalls Congress—well, too bad for Congress.

Facebook’s rules to combat misinformation & hate speech are subject to the whims & political considerations of its CEO &his policy team leader. Mark Zuckerberg personally didn’t like the punishment so he changed the rules & called for a more nuanced policy & enforcement strategy.
Zuckerberg’s more nuanced policy set off a cascading effect which delayed the company’s efforts to remove right wing militant organizations such as the Oath Keepers. It is a case study in Facebook’s willingness to change its rules to placate the right & avoid political backlash.
Policy guided by Joel Kaplan, VP of global public policy, and Zuckerberg’s whims exerted outsize influence while obstructing content moderation decisions obstructing product rollouts & intervening on behalf of popular conservative figures who have violated Facebook’s rules.

The majority of Republicans rejected democracy.Americans ought to remember the names of these members who objected to the outcome of a free &fair election, the reps. who stuck by Trump in the impeachment vote &the senators who acquitted him after his trial
apple.news/A8-u2DIK-QbKfh…
First they hid behind obscure interpretations of the Constitution & false claims of voter fraud. Then, even after a violent mob came for them, they chose a pathological liar & would-be authoritarian over the rule of law. This group was willing to delay democracy & obstruct...
...the transfer of power to a duly elected president after their party’s leader incited a riot, they refused to hold him accountable & allowed an attack on their own branch of government to go unpunished.
