1. Did TFG obtain money from his flock on false pretenses? Is that wire fraud? In the recent NJ #BridgeGate SCOTUS case, the court made clear that the purpose of the scam has to be to obtain money or property. Jamming up NJ traffic didn't qualify.
2. I think what most of us suspected, and has now been reveled, is that the orange menace and his minions are using #TheBigLie to raise money. Is that mail and wire fraud? It might be and if it is, his victims may have a way to get three-times their money back from him.
3. I've never seen an easier Civil RICO to allege. We have 10 RICO predicates under 18 USC 1512 just in the Mueller Report. We have the Stormy Daniels money laundering that Michael Cohen was convicted of engaging in with "Individual No. 1."

US news organizations continue to treat Trump lies as truths, repeating them verbatim without context.

The flurry of “Trump books” news stories continue to amplify the #bigLie.

NEITHER TRUMP quote in this CNBC story should appear here like this. 🧵

MAGA: what in the #Texas lege bill restricts voting?

A thread...

Look, the new voting restrictions are not going to spell out something explicitly like “black or poor people are ineligible to vote” but the rewrites are designed to suppress their votes.
Of course, you can’t ignore why the #Texas leg (and other R state legs) is pursuing this course of action in the first place (the #BigLie). They are riding Trump’s election fraud scheme like a rodeo Bulldogger on a prized steer. Milking that BS for all its worth. And yet…
according to Trump’s own cybersecurity chief, we had one of the “most secure elections in American history”, something like 63 “SAD!” failed attempts to uncover #fraud in court (where lawyers are now losing their licenses over how stupid and frivolous the suits were) and…

Elections are an additive process — count the votes — then add them up.

Why are votes being subtracted from Donald Trump in the Pennsylvania data?

Why are votes subtracted from Trump, then the exact number gets added to Biden?

I’m convinced the problem at @TheJusticeDept is Merrick Garland. For all the accolades he’s received about being an “institutionalist” restoring the DOJ, it is those qualities that make him woefully inadequate to face the Trump GQP white supremacist fascist threat we face now.
The only people who should have been considered for @TheJusticeDept AG are @SallyQYates @glennkirschner2 or @PreetBharara. We need someone in charge unencumbered by DOJ “norms” or fearful of indicting prominent politicians for crimes committed. @SDNYnews has been neutered. (2)
If Trump, Gosar, or Brooks were regular citizens, they would have been indicted by now. Yet they’re out planning another terrorist insurrection on the #BigLie. And they’re giving fuel to GOP legislators to attack democracy through voter suppression. Where is @TheJusticeDept? (3)

A thread of insurrectionist Republicans that must be held accountable.

Paul Gosar planned the January 6th event & promoted the #Biglie. There was no permit for a march to the Capitol or added security in place. He incited it. Hold home accountable!
Ted Cruz led a sham case to challenge the election then challenged the certification despite clear evidence Biden won decisively.
He riled up insurrectionists with “We will not go quietly into the night.” & these insurrectionists heard the message:
Josh Hawley incited an insurrection.
“I waved to them, gave them the thumbs up, pumped my fist to them, and thanked them for being there.”
-Josh Hawley

Hold him accountable!

“Hawley, Cruz”
“I think Cruz would want us to do this”
“I think we’re good”

Legislators are starting to feel the heat to honor their oaths of office and conduct a statewide forensic audit of the 2020 election results. Thankfully, a couple of legislators have stood up for our rights in commendable fashion such as Rep Daire Rendon and Rep Steve Carra.
Sadly, the political status quo crowd including those in the GOP are attempting to turn the heat up on me and those who continue to expose election fraud regardless of threats of lawsuits and AG investigations. Not gonna work. We know how the machine works ;)
Their current attempt to marginalize those exposing election fraud is to call for me and others to share "a single piece of evidence" of election fraud. This is a not so clever trap.

For 4 YEARS Dems & leftist media daily accused #Trump of colluding with #Russia to steal the 2016 election.

Not only did we come to learn that this narrative was fact-free, but that it also was a DEM hit job! Yet they repeat this #BigLie even to this day...
Takeaway: Dems are ALLOWED to question the integrity of an election as much as they please- even sans evidence- and label themselves virtuous, heroic defenders of democracy in so doing ...
But if GOP or conservatives dare to question the absurd narrative that the 2020 election had NO fraud at all- despite much evidence to the contrary- they're labeled dangerous insurrectionists to be silenced, canceled, and arrested!…

This is a crucial piece by @ThePlumLineGS, outlining why the Select Committee should explore the “white rage” behind the January 6 insurrection.

I’d like to add: The white nationalist threat doesn’t emanate from the fringes of society – but from the Republican Party itself. 1/
We must not miss the forest for the trees: “White rage” is not just a fringe phenomenon in American politics, and the people who stormed the Capitol were not just a bunch of frustrated individuals from the fringes of society. 2/
They also weren’t simply seduced and overwhelmed by Trump’s #BigLie – I reflected on why it would be dangerously misleading to imagine the insurrectionists as victims of brilliant propaganda here: 3/

1/ The coup continues. #Cheboygan Board of Commissioners will vote on requesting a #fraudit of 2020 election tomorrow. Board is unsure if Germany or Taiwan had unauthorized access to our election, which Trump won 64%. Seriously.

2/ As reported by @washingtonpost, right-wing operatives targeted rural, pro-Trump counties starting in December. They look for friendly rubes who will agree to an audit.

Once the audit is approved, private companies create reports that deliberately play up suspicion.
3/ Those reports are used to create further doubt among a national audience, amplified by right-wing media. They give cover to @GOP state legislatures pushing voter suppression. And Trump base comes to believe that #BigLie has proof, and Dear Leader will be reinstated ( = coup)

This piece is spot on: Instead of pretending that individual politicians are the problem, we need to acknowledge what @ThePlumLineGS calls the “larger truth”: That the Republican Party itself has become an anti-democratic force and an acute threat to American democracy. 1/
As @ThePlumLineGS rightfully notes, not every Republican has gone as far as Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia in their open disdain for democracy, the rule of law, and those who protected it on January 6. 2/
But let’s remember that calling the insurrection a "normal tourist visit," as Clyde famously did, or acting the way he did towards a man who risked his own life to defend American democracy, does not get you in trouble within the Republican Party. 3/

#BlockedByRempel’s hypocrisy is grotesque. Michelle Rempel is a narcissist. There is nothing she does or says that isn’t entirely rooted in self-promotion or self-interest.

She promotes #Jan6th insurrectionist Stefanik, as if THAT is who 🇨🇦 should take direction from?! #cdnpoli Image
Why is it especially significant that Michelle Rempel is promoting Elise Stefanik? Because Stefanik enabled #January6thInsurrection & engaged in trying to overturn a democratic election. She promoted Trump’s #BigLie & other disinformation. #cdnpoli… ImageImageImageImage

Why would any US senator or member of Congress oppose an independent commission to investigate what led to a deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol—one aimed squarely at undermining American democracy & the peaceful transfer of power?
The reasons are as cynical as they are obvious.
Republicans lied about the election being stolen. That lie helped motivate a white supremacist mob of Trump supporters to smash their way into the Capitol—some with plans to kill Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi—to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s electoral win.
The GOP doesn’t want a respected panel of experts publicly connecting the dots heading into the 2022 elections and they don’t want to get on Trump’s bad side by supporting a commission that would show how his lie incited an attack on democracy that left 5 people dead...

As you would expect, @AdamSerwer demolishes the exculpatory myth of Republicans being afraid of and/or seduced by Trump and gets right to the heart of the matter: Republicans are convinced that if democracy yields Democratic governance, then democracy has got to go.
That’s why the intense focus on Trump’s #BigLie is actually somewhat misleading. It can easily obscure the real problem when it is taken to suggest that Republicans were wholeheartedly embracing democracy until they were seduced and overwhelmed by Trump’s brilliant propaganda.
What we need to focus on is that the “Big Lie” can flourish and have such a massive effect because it builds on longstanding anti-democratic tendencies and impulses on the American Right and among conservatives.

Great reporting by @ThePlumLineGS on the “Statement of Concern” issued by eminent scholars of democracy.

A few comments on this important document: Some historical context - and one objection to the final sentence, the idea that “History will judge what we do at this moment.”
First of all, I am grateful to @leedrutman and all the scholars who participated: “Our democracy is fundamentally at stake,” they write, and that is exactly the heart of the matter.

I reflected on the world-historic significance of this struggle in this thread a few days ago:
I’m also grateful that the Statement is entirely free of “both sides” nonsense or obscuring language of “unity.” It leaves no doubt that we are looking at a Republican assault on democracy - that is the threat we need to face.
