Delhi Hospitals are reporting cases of a rare condition in children as a post-covid complication - multi inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C). Yet, doctors have assured that the affected children have responded to the treatment and the mortality rate remains low.
newsbytesapp.com/news/india/del… Image
MIS-C is a rare immune reaction that occurs around 4 to 6 weeks after a mild or asymptomatic coronavirus infection. Symptoms include fever, eye infection, diarrhea, stomach ache and nausea. In extremely rare cases, the condition can lead to a multiple organ failure. #CoronaUpdate Image
Notably in early June, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi set up a children's ward suffering from MIS-C. Dr. Dhiren Gupta said they have seen 52 such patients in 4 weeks. Mostly kids aged 4-16 were affected. Worryingly, he said the condition led to cardiac issues in 70% patients. Image
MIS-C is treated using supportive care such as intravenous fluids, medications that reduce inflammation, and treatments to improve heart function and breathing. Use of corticosteroids and #Remdesivir is advised only for hospitalized patients with critical illness. #COVID19India Image
Experts say parents should notice early signs and consult a doctor. "What parents need to do is report to a pediatrician if a child has fever for more than three days within six weeks of recovering from COVID-19," said Dr. Anurag Aggarwal of Maulana Azad Medical College. Image

A 3rd wave of covid infections in India is unavoidable and may hit the country within 8 weeks, AIIMS chief Dr. Randeep Guleria said. The vitality of the new wave however, would depend upon vaccination coverage and level of adherence to COVID-19 protocols.
newsbytesapp.com/news/india/aii… Image
Dr. Guleria added, "As we have started unlocking, there is again a lack of COVID-appropriate behavior. We don't seem to have learned from what happened between the 1st and the 2nd wave." He further said, "It all depends on how we go ahead in terms of COVID-appropriate behavior." Image
So will this wave affect children more? A recent seroprevalence study was done by #WHO and AIIMS on 10,000 samples. Citing that, the Indian govt asserted that the level of antibodies was similar in both adults and children. So, the new wave might affect every age group equally. Image

The anti-vaccine gang is at it again! There sure have been numerous myths and conspiracy theories surrounding the COVID-19 vaccines, but the title for the most bizarre probably goes to a relatively new one - the jab could turn you magnetic. #antivaxxers

Recently, Arvind Sonar from Nashik, shot to online 'fame' as he claimed developing magnetic abilities soon after taking his second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The video showed another man smoothly sticking rupee coins, steel spoons, and plates to Sonar's chest and arms. Image
The Indian government's Press Information Bureau has denied the claims. "Several posts/videos claiming that #COVID19 #vaccines can make people magnetic. COVID-19 vaccines do NOT make people magnetic and are completely SAFE (sic)," the PIB wrote on Twitter, with a video message. Image

A total disregard for COVID protocols will hasten the 3rd wave of the pandemic, the Delhi High Court warned today noting violations in Delhi following easing of curbs. The court has asked the Centre and the Delhi govt to submit status reports over this.
newsbytesapp.com/news/india/del…
The HC has took suo motu cognizance of the issue after a doctor from Delhi's AIIMS shared images of overcrowded markets. The court asked govt to take strict measures against violators and sensitize sellers. It also directed to deploy police in markets to enforce social distancing
"The memory of the second wave has not left us, yet people behave in this manner. This is very unfortunate," a bench of Justices Navin Chawla and Asha Menon commented. "There is a need for strict measures to prevent further spread of COVID-19 infection." #covidupdates
