1/🧵Manipulating narrative is in part which stories editors choose to lead on.
Today
The Hancock story is going to suppress the more important story that the gov asked for SAGE to model high transmission in younger age groups to reach herd immunity via infection #edutwitter
2/ Andrew Lloyd Webber another big headline. Data from trials is being suppressed, we are reminded that other data that could be positively spun was delayed.
But they won't mention case data in education still isn't being published since May
4/ They are covering schools as "isolations cause disruption' not "transmission causes disruption"
While gov refuses to publish case data media can continue claiming while year groups are sent home from 1 case when what I'm seeing is larger scale outbreaks
5/ Preparing the ground to remove isolation, currently running deeply questionable trials. Gov advisors saying increased risk of transmission is a fair balance to reducing time out of school.
7/ Two weeks ago we had the familiar paediatricians saying "doom mongers are wrong no sign of significant transmission in schools"
Last week they were still claiming schools weren't the problem
December she says schools are safe, chance of transmission is minimal
Now she says just ignore covid in school
Why do media always find ppl arguing to remove isolation whi won't call for ventilation to cut transmission? 1/
2/ "80% of over 16s have antibodies"
Equating prior infection and 1 jab as immune is dangerous and wrong.
Prior infection means immune is an important narrative of the anti vax movement and she's propagating it

1/🧵Politics is all about controlling the narrative.
Machiavelli said democracies are the most stable government because you can trust a well informed populous to make the right decision.
Flip side of a democracy is anarchy, usually result of corruption and misinformed public...
2/Its why we currently face an onslaught of disinformation from foreign governments and the far right, creating confusion, undermining trust in institutions furthers their agendas.
The media should be vital for keeping the public informed.
3/Politicians have always deceived and mislead to one extent or another, however the hubris with which out current cabinet engages in outright dishonesty is astounding for its brazenness.
Johnsons speech to G7, you could hear the smirch in his voice, its a game to them
