[Policy for rights of the dead]

#SupremeCourt to hear a PIL seeking directions to Centre to frame a policy "protecting rights of the dead" & to ensure that States do not overcharge for cremations/burials in case of #COVID19 deaths

#RightofDead #cremation #burial
The PIL states that the prayers have been made in light of the recent instances of dead bodies found floating in River Ganga #COVID19 #SupremeCourt.
Court says file an application in the pending matter.

Do not file another Art 32 petition.

Petitioner agrees. Plea disposed of with liberty to file IA in earlier matter in which an order was passed for dead body management.
Adv Robin Raju: There needs to be a policy for rights of the dead. we have seen incidents like bodies thrown in Ganga, we filed representations too. But no action was taken

Justice L Nageswara Rao discusses with Justice Hemant Gupta
SC: Go before NHRC, how many forums will you approach. It is a serious problem we know that. but approach NHRC. Petition be withdrawn with liberty to approach NHRC
