Today is International Parliamentarism Day: un.org/en/observances…
I'm not sure what Congress is doing, but I'm going to log on shortly for a conversation at 12 PM ET with @MarceloRamos & others.
It's fair to say that Brazil's e-democracia platform made them a world leader in #edem a decade ago: blog.thegovlab.org/post/constitue… I'm going to ask Mr. Ramos about how that's going, & how it's affected public trust or participation in legislative activity, from lawmaking to oversight
Rep. @MarceloRamosAM says shifting to a virtual parliament has concentrated power in Brazil's Congress to those who are there in person.
He suggests final votes can be virtual, but the legislative process should be face to face.
As in US, it's about power politico.com/news/magazine/…
@marceloramosam After my Q on whether broadcasting hearings has improved or decreased trust, Ramos says he would not categorize countries as corrupt or non-corrupt. Rather, there are countries with good accountability mechanisms, & those without. Corrupt politicians coordinate better in latter.

There’s the public statement of support from this @potus that I’d looked for earlier.
If our democracy is “in peril,” then this @whitehouse needs to rally all Americans to defend it based upon shared public facts, from debunking @potus45’s lies of fraud to changing Senate rules.
More presidential attention, but no deeper insight into how the President or Senator Majority Leader propose to overcome the filibuster that has sunk civil rights legislation in previous years.

This bill (#SB7) was drafted in secret, expanded to include voting restrictions, & rushed through the Texas Senate on Saturday under suspension of rules, without time for Texans to read the legislation: texastribune.org/2021/05/30/tex…
The @VP identified it as an attack on voting rights
President @JoeBiden said this Texas bill “attacks the sacred right to vote” & connected it to a broader “assault on democracy” that “disproportionately targets Black & Brown Americans. whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/…
