EFFICACY DROP—New Israel 🇮🇱 Health Ministry data show that 2-doses Pfizer vaccine against #DeltaVariant over the past month is now just 64% effective in preventing #COVID19 infection. In constrast in May, before #DeltaVariant prevalent, vaccine was 94%. 🧵 timesofisrael.com/ministry-data-…
2) Meanwhile, another study from researchers at the Hebrew University and Hadassah University Medical Center indicated that the Pfizer vaccine is 60-80% effective against infection from the #DeltaVariant.
3) The Delta variant, which is believed to be twice as contagious as the original strain of COVID-19, is thought to be responsible for 90% of new cases in Israel over the past two weeks.
4) The Health Ministry figures report that the vaccine is still considerably effective against preventing serious symptoms and hospitalization. However, in May that figure stood at 98%—but has since fallen during June to 93% hospitalization efficacy. Still good, but not perfect.
5) Are hospitalizations increasing now in Israel? Yes, up “like clockwork” says @JeffSmithi24. Israel is 60% 2-dose Pfizer fully vaccinated. No other country has vaccinations higher than 🇮🇱. This, #DeltaVariant is a threat to every country right now. Leadership pay attention.
6) As long time follower know, I’m the biggest advocate of vaccines. But I believe we need more aggressive measures against the #DeltaVariant given how fast, serious, and more evasive it is. We need masks for the vaccinated. And better ventilation and indoor air quality.
7) Israel is now actively considering adding a 3rd dose based in their recent health ministry discussions. UK is soon starting 3rd dose as well for age 50+ in September.
8) Meanwhile, in less vaccinated America, most people are asleep and not understanding the menace the #DeltaVariant poses. This is not fearmongering—this is being precautionary so that we can all **avoid lockdowns** by acting early!!
11) Israel govt really concerned about the huge drop in vaccine efficacy (they use Pfizer) from 90s to now just 64% against #DeltaVariant. Israel has not decided on 3rd dose yet. But still mulling it.
12) 4 out of 4 family members infected recently… 3 out of 4 fully vaccinated, but still positive. These stories repeating over and over. The 100% household infection rate also noted before by Australia health officials. After seeing so many such reports, this is a clear pattern.
13) some folks are confused why UK had higher 2 dose efficacy for Pfizer against #DeltaVariant. Let me explain, the 83% (Scotland) & 88% (England) were for *symptomatic* Delta #COVID19. But for total Delta infections—🏴 only found 79%. And Scotland had masks, while Israel didn’t.
14) Hence Israel’s 64% total infection efficacy against #DeltaVariant dominant Israel in June make sense. The efficacy is now definitely much lower between 64-79% the previous. I think total infection efficacy is more important than symptomatic efficacy because of unvaxxed risk.
15) reminder than 1 dose even worse. Dr Fauci also warned recently about 1 dose inadequacy: “The problem you get into … is that a single dose only provides about ~30% effectiveness [against #DeltaVariant]—so that is really an issue you gotta be careful”

📍MILESTONE—The #DeltaVariant has just become the new reigning variant—now 51.7% dominant in US, up from 30% just 2 weeks ago. #DeltaVariant is the world’s fastest #COVID19 variant to date, >4x higher hospitalization risk, & more partial vaccine evasive.🧵 covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tra…
2) the #DeltaVariant (dark orange) is particularly surging in the Midwest, parts of the South, and in southwest.
3) The #DeltaVariant is particularly 1 dose vaccine evasive. Only 18-30% with one dose, much lower than before. Two doses better much much weaker. Scotland found 79% two dose Pfizer efficacy for #DeltaVariant infection, while Israel found 64-70%.
⚠️England🏴 plans to end mandates for masks & social distancing on July 19, says Boris Johnson (who was #COVID19 hospitalized). Now UK callously tells citizens to "learn to live with the virus." ➡️Meanwhile #DeltaVariant hospitalizations ⬆️47% in 1 week.🧵washingtonpost.com/world/europe/b…
2) This is a horrible terrible no good very bad idea. UK is much less vaccinated than Israel and with much less Pfizer. Yet Israel seeing cases rise, and hospitalizations still increasing. And the vaccine much weaker against #DeltaVariant
Florida cases have risen ~50% in 2 weeks. Florida is one of the states with least #COVID19 safety measures. Maybe banning mask rules and banning vaccination verification was a bad idea. 🤷🏻♂️ #DeltaVariant doesn’t care it’s summer.
2) Countless people are not taking the #DeltaVariant seriously. But Delta is damn serious.
📍Bathroom airborne transmission confirmed. Whether breathing, toilet🚽 plume, or fecal aerosols doesn’t matter—it stayed in air for 40 minutes before infecting next person. @AliNouriPhD & I have been warning about fecal, bathroom, & septic ventilation for long time. #COVID19 🧵
2) Many past examples of fecal aerosol transmission of the #SARSCoV2 virus - such as in large high rise buildings that share toilet drainage pipes between different apartments / condo units. Yes the graphic is quite graphic, but that’s why photos worth 1000 words…
3) We also know feces can carry active coronavirus that causes #COVID19. Fauci says so, as well as pediatric studies that show the virus living in intestines of children for over a month. Often without symptoms.
What the hell are these people thinking? #DeltaVariant is damn serious: faster, more severe, more problematic for partially vaccinated, and transmits via fleeting exposure. 6 in 10 people don’t what the hell they are facing. Stay safe folks. #COVID19
3) Asked about the accuracy of these warnings about the delta variant, 45 percent say they believe U.S. officials are accurately describing the risk while 35 percent say the warnings are exaggerated. Nearly 1 in 5 express no opinion.
📊Worrisome—3 in 10 (29%) Americans say they are not likely to get vaccinated, including 20% saying they will definitely not do so. 86% of Democrats got at least one shot of a vaccine, versus 45% of Republicans. ➡️But #DeltaVariant does not care. #COVID19washingtonpost.com/politics/post-…
2) But while 6 percent of Democrats say they aren’t likely to get vaccinated, 47 percent of Republicans fall into that camp, with 38 percent of Republicans overall saying they will definitely not get shots against the virus.
3) Most independents (54 percent) say they have received at least one shot and another 11 percent say they are likely to do so. Among independents, 22 percent say they will definitely not get vaccinated.
