Video with AuTeach, Lydia Brown, and Shain Neumeier talking about #StopTheShock , their involvement in the activism surrounding JRC, and what you can do to help.
If you're from Massachusetts, could tell MA representatives to strip the JRC of their nonprofit status.
For everyone, you can urge your legislature to cut the funding for the Judge Rotenberg Center. #StopTheShock
Is the GED considered a mechanical restraint under the law?
(KASSA may have a broad definition which may count the GED as a mechanical restraint, unclear if this is true though).
Apparently the one use of the GED aside from torturing disabled people is by consenting adults wanting to quit smoking cigarettes. This is still operational conditioning. However, they decided to do it to themself & consented to. Which is not the same thing. #StopTheShock
So after hearing about this in the video, I tried looking up this "aversion therapy" to quit smoking, and I'm pretty sure the device they use is a completely different device?
So why couldn't the FDA outright ban the GED specifically?
Lydia Brown suggests to email your representatives (esp. if they serve on house education & labor committee/senate health education labor & pensions committee) & ask them to include an amendment that would expand the bills prohibitions to include aversive interventions in KASSA
(KASSA is the student safe seclusion/restraint act that ASAN is pushing to try to pass)
I'm not saying that all allistic people looked at it and scrolled on.. but 475 of them literally told me they didn't email people, on a poll (why would you even admit that tbh??)
Also, there are different levels of help:
1. sharing an article without the hashtag & saying WHAT? 2. sharing an article with the hashtag & saying WHAT? 3. Sharing the hashtag with a summary of what happened 4. Sharing the hashtag with a summary of what happened & action steps
" Comments may be submitted in writing via e-mail to IACCPublicInquiries@mail.nih.gov or using the web form at: iacc.hhs.gov/meetings/publi… by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, July 2, 2021. "
Still might be worth doing -
"Any written comments received after the 5:00 p.m. ET, Friday, July 2, 2021 may be provided to the Committee either before or after the meeting, depending on the volume of comments received and the time required to process them..."
I honestly don't understand how everyone isn't screaming #StopTheShock at this very moment.
I don't understand it.
Yes there's other causes, of course there are.
I just don't understand how people are okay with literal torture.
I don't understand why ableds are heartless.
I honestly am not sure, with this account, that I can tweet about anything other than #StopTheShock at this point until something is out there on the news, out to a wider audience.
I'm just imagining the utter fear and helplessness autistic kids are feeling right now.
I'm imagining a kid accidentally wetting the bed and getting shocked in the middle of the night (actually happened).
I'm imagining a kid with a broken tooth being shocked for moaning in pain (actually happened).
& people are just going about their fucking lives. #StopTheShock
The part I added I will tweet here so you can copy and paste into your message:
"I would also like you to push to ban the GED device that the FDA previously banned the use of, but has just been overturned by the D.C. Circuit Court." 1/3
"The Judge Rotenburg Center tortures autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities with this shock device.
The GED is abusive. Shocking autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities for not taking their coat off fast enough is abusive."
2/3
"To learn more, please follow the #StopTheShock hashtag on twitter.
Please push the FDA to ban the GED device outright, and to prevent the restraint and abuse of all autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities in the US."
