Still might be worth doing -

Honestly I'm quite bitter today.

I'm bitter because I've helped a lot of non-autistic people understand their kid or student.

But when they see #StopTheShock & what's happening,
when it's not about them...

they just don't care to help?
docs.google.com/document/d/13w…
I'm not saying that all allistic people looked at it and scrolled on.. but 475 of them literally told me they didn't email people, on a poll (why would you even admit that tbh??)
Also, there are different levels of help:

1. sharing an article without the hashtag & saying WHAT?
2. sharing an article with the hashtag & saying WHAT?
3. Sharing the hashtag with a summary of what happened
4. Sharing the hashtag with a summary of what happened & action steps

Video with AuTeach, Lydia Brown, and Shain Neumeier talking about #StopTheShock , their involvement in the activism surrounding JRC, and what you can do to help.

70% of the students come from New York state

Often funded through IDEA, or Medicaid funding from New York

Apparently this is common for disabled people from New York to be dumped into out-of-state residential facilities/institutions even for decades.

#StopTheShock
A few things that could stop this:

If you're from Massachusetts, could tell MA representatives to strip the JRC of their nonprofit status.

For everyone, you can urge your legislature to cut the funding for the Judge Rotenberg Center.

The JRC is hiring everyone! YOU can shock children too!

Direct Care Positions- between $16.00-$21.00/hour

(and a lot more positions, even a nurse and a speech and language therapist)

Would you sell your soul for a not minimum wage job?

JRC is counting on it!

#StopTheShock
They claim that their "nutritional" meal plan helps prevent cancer, as if that's more important than not shocking children. : )

"It emphasizes fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, and tends to lower cholesterol levels and help prevent cancer.

#StopTheShock
Their website even has a "positive programming" page,

they talk about how parents can see progress.

That progress is literally a chart of the number of "inappropriate behaviors" they've done each day with no explanation of what they were.

I honestly don't understand how everyone isn't screaming #StopTheShock at this very moment.

I don't understand it.

Yes there's other causes, of course there are.

I just don't understand how people are okay with literal torture.

I don't understand why ableds are heartless.
I honestly am not sure, with this account, that I can tweet about anything other than #StopTheShock at this point until something is out there on the news, out to a wider audience.

I'm just imagining the utter fear and helplessness autistic kids are feeling right now.
I'm imagining a kid accidentally wetting the bed and getting shocked in the middle of the night (actually happened).

I'm imagining a kid with a broken tooth being shocked for moaning in pain (actually happened).

& people are just going about their fucking lives. #StopTheShock

A thread:

You know, being autistic is like..

[Autistic people can stop reading here]

Non-autistic People,

did you think I was going to make an informative thread on autism?
Did you want education?

Because I'm not doing that until you
help to #StopTheShock

You can help right here -
docs.google.com/document/d/13w…
If you're a non-autistic person who clicked on this thread,

did you email your representatives and other agencies on that page yet?

I know 475 people who said they didn't yesterday.

#StopTheShock just did this -

The part I added I will tweet here so you can copy and paste into your message:

"I would also like you to push to ban the GED device that the FDA previously banned the use of, but has just been overturned by the D.C. Circuit Court."
1/3
"The Judge Rotenburg Center tortures autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities with this shock device.

The GED is abusive. Shocking autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities for not taking their coat off fast enough is abusive."
2/3
"To learn more, please follow the #StopTheShock hashtag on twitter.

Please push the FDA to ban the GED device outright, and to prevent the restraint and abuse of all autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities in the US."
