Due to the #COVID19 pandemic, 2β£3β£ million children π¦π§ missed out on basic vaccines through routine immunization services in 2020, increasing by 3.7 million and the highest number since 2009.
Without high childhood vaccination rates, countries face risks of multiple disease outbreaks. Spread of diseases like #measles, polio or meningitis could be catastrophic for countries already battling #COVID19.

π treatment recommendation from WHO:
WHO recommends life-saving interleukin-6 receptor blockers to treat #COVID19 and urges producers to join efforts to rapidly increase access.
Interleukin-6 receptor blockers are a class of medicines that are lifesaving in patients who are severely or critically ill with #COVID19, especially when administered alongside corticosteroids.
Patients severely or critically ill with #COVID19 often suffer from an overreaction of the immune system, which can be very harmful to the patientβs health. Interleukin-6 blocking drugs β tocilizumab and sarilumab β act to suppress this overreaction.
Limited electricity, lack of fuel, damaged telecommunications equipment, no cellular service = barriers to delivering life-saving health services to people in #Tigray, πͺπΉ. WHO must be able to provide medical supplies for #healthworkers to use in clinics, hospitals.
WHO teams have delivered medical supplies to Abi Addi hospital in #Tigray, πͺπΉ, enabling #healthworkers to give emergency care to patients.
Essential medicines for a range of conditions have been delivered to Hagere Selam, a town in Northern πͺπΉ. Itβs one of many health care facilities WHO and partners are supporting to ensure life-saving health services can be restored. #Tigray
