I graduated high school with a 1.7 GPA.

But it was the lessons I learned training martial arts that took me from classroom loser to successful entrepreneur.

Here are the 7 most critical👇
A Jujitsu master gets their ass beat on the street

Why?

Bc as soon as you secure your chokehold, his friend is breaking a bottle over your head.
Lesson: No matter how good you are, someone is coming for your customers in a way you won’t suspect.

You need to wow them, even if you stand alone in the category now.
2. Prepare for any environment

In martial arts, we practiced fighting in the rain, in total darkness, and against 2 opponents.

Because you never know where you’ll be, when danger strikes.

Things in the economy are buzzing now.
And they may be buzzing on your favorite ad platform.

But what happens when the algorithm changes, and that’s the only platform you have?

Or the economy changes, and people stop buying your core product?

Lesson: The only consistent is change. Plan for it.
3. Don’t wash your belt

In the old days of karate, there were no belt colors. As your belt became more soiled (and black), it showed time put in to your training.

In business, we tend to cover up mistakes, and present a polished image to our colleagues, investors, whoever.
Lesson: Be vulnerable about how you are struggling, and where you’ve screwed up. That’s when you learn the most.
4. Strike first, Strike hard

Nothing gives you an edge faster than starting a fight with a shocking blow.

As Mike Tyson famously said, "Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face."
Lesson: Be ready to scale your company BIG, out of the gate.

This way those who knock-off your brand won’t be able to catch you, because you will clearly own the category in your customer’s mind.
5. Bow before entering & leaving the mat

In the dojo, everyone is treated wi respect.

But in business, some think they can “short cut” with poor service, shady billing tactics, or knocking off ads or products.
I see this often. They make a quick buck, get shut down, then go on to the next quick buck.

Burning bridges all the way. Which eventually catches up to their bank account

Lesson: Build your biz honorably, even if that means slowly

It’s worth it when it stands the test of time.
6. All instructors will be addressed as “Mr” or “Mrs”

In my karate days, when someone came in cocky and arrogant, my instructor would invite them straight into the ring, and give them a beating.

This was 25 years ago. Things are probably different now.
But in business, newbies often arrive arrogant and brash.

And then are surprised when the market chews them up, and spits them out.
Lesson: Do what Andrew Carnegie did. Arrive humble. Ask questions. Show respect to those who came before you.

You’ll be rewarded with priceless wisdom, and maybe a new business sensei.
7. A black belt doesn’t mean shit.

But seeing someone kick ass in the ring, no matter what belt they have on, tells all.

Lesson: Your Forbes feature next to Grant Cardone & Tai Lopez, your last fundraise, your fancy social media -
May feel cool to talk about, but you’re not actually doing anything.

Build your business not for show, but for IMPACT.

Whether it’s changing the lives of your customers, creating great jobs, or putting money in the bank.

Better yet, do all 3.

I went to jail for the 2nd time at 22.

Not my proudest moment, but the story contains an important marketing lesson.

So here we go 👇
So at 22 I'm living at home with my Dad in Thousand Oaks, California.

Waiting tables at the local Hyatt and working a few random telemarketing jobs.

At the time, I desperately wanted to live on my own.
So I answer an ad on Craigslist looking for a roommate.

I show up and this dude named Mike opens the door.

He was a total nerd with the Star Wars t-shirt to match.

But he seemed nice enough so I signed the lease and moved in the next day.

I’ve built 10+ brands to $100m+ in total sales

Here are the 4 biggest lessons:
--
1) Riches in Niches is overrated.

Show me a a brand in a small niche that did $100m+

And I’ll show you 100 in the biggest categories:

Health, wealth, love & status.
2) Limit choices.

Many brands try to launch 10-50 products at once.

Instead, pick 4-8.

Or, just 1.

An old rule of marketing:

Give people too many choices, and they will pick 0.
3) Look for an Education Opportunity

Example: The Honest Company

Taught you many household items contain bad chemicals.

Then, they offered you items that didn’t.

Another example:

Want to 10X your income in the next 4 years?

No, this isn't a get rich quick scheme.

Here are 6 rules that helped me do it, from 2009-2013, and the action steps to start today👇
1) Quit Your Porn

Everyone has some sort of “porn”, that hijacks your brain, & wastes your time.

Yours could be actual porn, or a different time-suck like video games or (gasp!) twitter.

The Key: Identify the distraction.

Action Step: Commit to quitting "it" for 60 days
2) Exit Your Social Cyclone

In NYC, every night was a special event or someone's birthday.

"I'll do one drink" could turn into 10.

Action Step: Realize events are optional.

Don't skip your Mom's birthday, but make growing your business the priority event.

This is gonna piss a lot of people off.

But I'll say it:

Bitclout is about to take over the world.

It's the future of social media, advertising, and monetization for your favorite creators, athletes, and musicians.

Here's why👇
Ok, what the hell is Bitclout?

Bitclout = Robinhood + Twitter, but decentralized on the blockchain

Decentralized = no banning.

Blockchain = money + transparency built in.
The difference between Bitclout and Robinhood/Twitter?

On Bitclout, the people are the stonks.

Everyone has a “coin price” over their head.

And a “market cap”, just like a company.

I sucked at writing.

5 years later, my writing helped build a multi 9-figure business.

You can use the method I used, to master any skill in 4 steps👇
1) Immersion

You need to live and breathe your skill nearly all your waking hours.

For my first 3 years learning copywriting, I didn't listen to music in my car.

Only marketing or copywriting courses. Which back then were on CDs and cassettes.
2) Application

You must DO your skill at least 5 days a week!

My mentor Eben challenged me to write 10 pages a day.

He promised me a raise to 100k, if I could do it for 6 months

I did it, & got it.

But more importantly, putting the boots on the ground daily got me the chops

We did $1.1 million in sales in 2 days.

Ya know those probiotics we all take?

In 2014, we became the biggest seller in the USA, using a little-known category secret.

Here’s the story👇
Product markets have 3 stages:

1) Clueless - What is that?

2) Curious - I've heard of it

3) Saturated - I've heard it too much
You can think of these stages like surfing waves:

For the Clueless market, you need to create the wave.

For the Curious, you need to catch the wave.

And if you try to enter the Saturated, the wave will body slam your ass.
