Boris Johnson met with Belarus opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya today.

Johnson & the corrupt dictator Lukashenko have some common traits.

They took the same nonachalant approach to visiting Covid wards.

Johnson's party has taken funds from sources close to Putin...
... Johnson's government is planning to restrict people's right to peaceful protest. And the UK & Belarus are the only two countries in Europe that still have a first-past-the-post electoral system.
The UK is still a long way from being a murderous dicatorship like Belarus. But anyone who puts their trust in Boris Johnson's corrupt government to defend democracy and the rule of law in the UK has not being paying attention.
Boris Johnson & Aleksandr Lukashenko also share a hostile attitude to the EU, & like to pretend that their countries are the plucky victims of EU bullying.

And they like to make grand but empty rhetorical gestures about Global Britain / Global Belarus.

It's going to be PM Rishi Sunak, isn't it? Looks like probably sooner rather than later.

Sunak is smart & personable, but his "free-market", "fiscally conservative" ideology is absolutely lethal - & especially disastrous in the context of Covid & the #ClimateEmergency.
I suspect Boris Johnson does not actually want to remain PM for much longer. He's essentially lazy & would rather be raking in easy money from speeches & articles. A determined push from Sunak & his backers would probably oust him quite easily.

Sunak has a lean & hungry look.
Rishi Sunak also has a big advantage within the Tory Party thanks to his intimate connections with hedge-funds - the biggest source of donations to the party.

They will no doubt be especially keen on his "relaxed" attitude to tax avoidance.

1/ One of the biggest anti-vax, anti-lockdown accounts on Twitter is the so called Anti Lockdown Alliance (GLOBAL). It tweets in several languages but mostly English - all the usual bullsh*t conspiracy theories, about the "Great Reset", Bill Gates, etc...
2/ Here it is sharing a Sputnik article in Portuguese suggesting the virus was created by Bill Gates and George Soros. The Anti Lockdown Alliance often tweets stuff from Russian propaganda media controlled by Putin's mafia state...
3/ In fact, the Anti Lockdown alliance are all-round fans of Putin. Here they are welcoming his remarks about the "Great Reset" - one of the conspiracy theories most heavily promoted by Kremlin trolls...

Nor surprised to see a 'Trump 2024' flag at the so-called #freedomrally in London.

These crowds always include a large far-right element, as well as deluded #COVIDIOTS who have watched too many dodgy Youtube videos. Image
Fascists have always seized on & weaponised any means of stoking paranoia & resentment. The influenza epidemic at the end of WW1 helped create conditions for the rise of fascism, and this pandemic may well be doing the same.

Sorry - my previous tweet about World of Warcraft was confusing this with Minecraft (neither of which I know anything about, as you'll have guessed). The flag next to the Trump flag is from Minecraft. No idea why it's being waved at a #Covidiots rally.

ThREAD: To understand where Boris Johnson's culture war is heading, the case of Spiked is instructive - and not just because his senior adviser Munira Mirza is a veteran of the former far-left & now far-right cult. 1/
2/ Spiked grew out of a Marxist sect that called itself the Revolutionary Communist Party. It prided itself on being truer to the methods of Lenin & Trotsky than its far-left competitors. Members saw themselves a vanguard elite that would kick the working class into revolution…
3/ Unaccountably, the working class was not greatly interested in being led into a glorious future by professor of sociology Frank Furedi and his cult-like acolytes. When the RCP put up candidates for election in 1987, they all lost their deposits…

Steve Baker's CRG (Covid Recovery Group) is basically the ERG (European Research Group, aka hard-Brexit nutters) under a new name.

One suspects the CRG understands about as much about epidemiology as the ERG understood about trade with Europe.
The European Research Group (ERG) never managed to work out what the EU is & why it matters, despite its supposed "research".

The Covid Recovery Group (CRG) seems to have little idea how Covid works & what it will take to recover from it.

Both basically disinformation outfits.
Steve Baker's career prior to establishing the so-called "Covid Recovery Group" (CRG) is interesting, to say the least. He's a true disaster capitalist, with a pretty impressive back-catalogue of disasters.

The govt has announced in a press release that Cambridge Analytica CEO Alexander Nix has been disqualified as company director for 7 yrs for offering "unethical" political services.

Boris Johnson says he "can't remember" why he met with Nix when he was Foreign Secretary in 2016. Image
Tactfully, the govt press release doesn't mention Cambridge Analytica's role in #Brexit, or that a sister company of CA was paid by Dominic Cummings & Vote Leave to place 1.5 billion highly dishonest ads on UK voters' Facebook pages in the days leading up to the 2016 referendum.
The links between Cambridge Analytica & the Tories run deep. At one time the largest shareholder in CA's parent company SCL was Vincent Tchenguiz, a billionaire Iranian-Israeli and generous donor to the Conservative Party.
