How to Handle Marketing for Your E-Commerce Business

~ Thread
So, you run an e-commerce business that has failed to grow since inception.

Since you started selling products, you’ve been accumulating losses…

But you’re not ready to hire an e-com marketing agency yet.

Follow these 5 tips to adjust your strategy & get results:
1. Get your branding right!

Many ecom owners buy domain names, make a logo, and build a basic website where they throw in various products.

When customers visit your site, what do they see?

Pure chaos!

They don’t even understand what they’re looking at.
You’re running a business. It’s time to act like it.

* What’s your unique selling proposition?

* Does your website have a particular look or feel?

* Is there consistency in what you sell?

* What makes you stand out from the competition?
2. Run Effective Facebook ads

Don’t just run go to your Ad center, select audience, put a random image, and push your product.

Nope.

You’ll waste even more money, and quit e-commerce altogether.

Here’s how to go about your FB ads:
* Study the market

You won’t get the best results if you know nothing about your market.

Find the most people likely to buy your products,

Identify what products they’ve been using previously and how your product stands out.
This will allow you set the right audience,

position your products the right way,

and get the most conversions…

But before you run those ads,
* Use the FB ad library

Head over to your competitors pages.

Check the page transparency to see what FB ads they’re running.

See how long they’ve been running.

Ads that have been running for a long time are working,

Model yours after them.
* Target broad audiences

Going for a narrow audience means you’ll be spending more on customer acquisition.

By allowing Facebook target a wider audience, you’ll get more people to view your ads.

But make sure you’ve done your research to know people who need your product.
* Spend more on acquiring new customers

Put more money at the top of your funnel.

Get more people into your business.

The more customers you have, the easier it is to scale.
* Optimize for the intended action

It’s best to optimize your ads for ‘purchase’.

Let people go to your store to buy something.

But if you want likes or engagement on your ads, select that.
* Retarget previous customers

When people shop from your store, you let them go.

That’s almost equivalent to “bye bye forever”

Let people who shopped on your site before see your ads.

If they like what they got before, they’ll buy more.
* Improve your audience using engagement metrics

Check all your ads,

Which ones are people responding to the most?

What type of people are responding to them?

Double down on the largest audience and show them more of those ads.
Facebook is not the only place you can run ads.

Depending on your market, you can run ads on Google, Pinterest, Snapchat, and TikTok.
3. Don’t forget content marketing

Content marketing allows you to provide value to customers before they purchase from your store.

Publish SEO content on your site to answer people’s questions.

Look into other channels like Instagram and YouTube…
Fashion Nova is widely known as an Instagram brand because

Since 2013 when Saghian (the CEO) moved online, they pushed their products massively on IG and grew exponentially.
4. Keep your friends close

People who purchase from your store &

People who drop their emails on your site are your friends.

Don’t let them go.

Get your emails right and you’ll see 3X your current revenue.
Make your customers your family and remain dedicated to helping them.

The more you help them, the more they’re willing to give back by buying your products.

- your site must run fast.

- make shopping easy.

- remind them of products in their carts

- share valuable tips….
5. Test, analyze, & scale

Always test.

Test ad creatives, test email headlines, test headlines for your sales copy…

Don’t change things when they’re working…

But immediately they start getting weak, test other things.
After testing various strategies,

Analyze what works best and do more of it.
Now, you’ve made some money.

You may decide to hire a marketing agency.

You already know about marketing for your store…

So, no agency will be able to lie to you (many do 🥴).

When your headline sucks, the whole copy is wasted.

Here are 5 ways to optimize your headline for success:
1. Make them benefit-driven

Let your readers see what they stand to gain from your offer.

Make sure it’s something they don’t already get elsewhere.

Answer the question: “What’s in it for me?”

So they’re not just looking like

“Wtf? 👁 👄 👁 “ Image
2. Spark curiosity

Even if you hang a huge benefit as your headline.

And stare at it every 5 minutes like it’s the best thing you’ve ever done,

People may not read the body.

They'll say it’s a lie and they leave the page.

Add questions or statements that make them curious Image

Feeling unproductive lately?

Here are 5 ways to change that…

[THREAD]
1. Wake up early

Between 5am - 10am, complete all your major tasks for the day.

You have the rest of the day to do whatever you want.

Sleep by 9pm and do it all over again.
2. 3 important tasks come first

A 32yo man complained that he does 2 minor tasks first and feels fulfilled for the day

As a result, he doesn’t do any important tasks

Wrong approach!

Do the 3 most important tasks first. You can schedule the rest of the day any way you want.

How To Edit Your Copy After The First Draft

[THREAD]
Several times, you’ve heard copywriters in and outside Twitter scream that you shouldn’t publish immediately after the first draft.

Don’t send that draft to clients.

Why?
Your first draft may be littered with:

- Punctuation and grammatical errors.

- Sentences that do not flow.

- Information your prospects don’t need.

Also, you may have missed out on some elements that should be in your copy.

It’s been 84 hours…

No sale.
“Was my copy that bad?”

Images of you working on it all night while your friends partied flood your mind.

You wince in pain again, your fingers moving the cursor all over the screen…

Hopeless…
