Guadeloupe and Martinique – largely because of deep, cultural resistance – are much, much less vaccinated than Metropolitan France (21% first-jabbed, compared to 81%). The one (low vax) helps to explains the other (high cases) – except in the closed minds of anti-vaxxers.

Here are 2 maps of European France published in recent days which make (it seems to me) the same point. The one, from Covidtracker, shows, in dark, the départements with highest C19 incidence rate. The other, a study for the state insurance system, shows high/low vax rates. 3/8
The correlation between high-incidence and low-vax – along the Med coast, in the poorer Paris and Lyon suburbs, in parts of the SW and a few islands elsewhere – is not absolutely precise. Other factors, such as tourism come into play. The match is striking all the same.

New cases (almost all Delta) in 7 days averaged 22,982 daily, after 21,788 last week and 19,436 the week before. Without Dom-Tom cases, the incidence rate in France is flat or falling. With them the IR has risen slightly from 225 to 234.7 (cases/100,000 people/ 7 days).

Acute cases and deaths are still rising sharply, driven by the surge in cases last month. Deaths have risen to 52 a day from 43 a week ago. There were 1,712 patients in acute care last night, compared to 1,331 a week ago. Over 80% of acute cases are unvaxxed.

The French vaccination rate has slumped a little to 280,000 first jabs a day but 9.3m have been 1st-jabbed since Macron announced the health pass. Fr remains easily on course to hit 50m first jabs before the end of the month (and before the UK).
