/ Having evaluated Ted' Cruz's body language for over a decade, one thing is clear in this moment: The facial expression Ted Cruz is expressing in this moment is one of his very few default faces.
/ When a person has very little facial expression variation (lots of repetition) one of the first things that should spring to mind is, "Is this person a sociopath/psychopath (Antisocial Personality Disorder [APD])? The answer is with significant possibility, "Yes".
/ To be sure, there are certainly other causes for diminished emotional variety other than sociopathy/psychopathy. Moreover, it's not a requirement that all sociopaths/psychopaths display a limited facial repetition — but it is a common behavioral pattern for these pathologies.
/ In addition, while this repetition of facial expressions amongst sociopaths/psychopaths tends to a feature — an accompanying feature is that they also tend to be hyperbolic/melodramatic (think of an 6th grade drama student).
/ Sociopaths/Psychopaths (APD) are constantly lying. Thus, they're also constantly acting. The *essentially method-act their whole lives*, i.e., this is how I act when I feign being proud, this is how I act when I feign happiness, this is how I act when I feign empathy, ...etc.
/ Many of their emotions, (i.e., when they're around other people, with their guard up) do not arise organically — rather they are parroted (and therefore often exaggerated [nonverbal shouting]).
/ Therefore, when they have just a few 'go-to' expressions that they use most of the time, these are essentially 'living masks'. These masks are very much subroutines.
/ This act/habit of wearing default masks makes it easier for them to lie. The brain doesn't have to work as hard — freeing up more 'brain space' in order to accomplish deception.
/ But even if we lacked an iota of information regarding Ted Cruz — if this was the first time we ever saw him, our alarm bells should be going off. Why?
/ This amalgam of an inward lip roll, clenched jaw, redundant/bunched up tissue beneath lower lip, tightening of his 'mustache region', flared nostrils, tightened lower lids, downward tilted head/chin, and a fixed gaze...
/ This nonverbal cluster all indicate the thought-emotions of:
/ If anyone ever looks at you with this expression, don't trust him. Keep your distance. He's in the process of conning you and he believes he will succeed (And this isn't even Cruz's most incriminating default facial expression).
/ Never trust a man who puts his hand(s) in his pocket(s) on stage. Particularly a politician. This is a fig leaf analog (partial genital guarding). It signals the beta emotions of a lack of confidence, emotional discomfort, anxiety, and a high likelihood of deception.
/ In fact, if you ask a man a question, and upon hearing it, he puts his hands in his pockets, at the very least it signals high anxiety — and depending on the other nonverbals you see simultaneously/nearly simultaneously, he may very well be about to tell you a lie.
/ While this nonverbal behavior is displayed by all genders, it's much more commonly used by men.
/ Politicians who do this on stage/on camera are almost exclusively men. It's akin to a turtle who draws a limb inside is shell (only this human male is partially covering his genitals). The turtle (human) doesn't really want to be there and is seeking protection.
/ The exact same thought-emotions are also present if you see this sudden-hands-in-pockets nonverbal behavior displayed by a family member in your kitchen ...or by a colleague at the office.
/ Next, if you look at Cruz's feet, they're positioned about a shoulder's width apart — which is about right (although sometimes this is a bit too far).
/ But what's significant about his lower extremities is their configuration contradicts his hand position — a tipoff of his cognitive-emotional dissonance. He's trying to be alpha, but, like most mediocre actors he can't quite pull it off — his body language is betraying him.
/ SUMMARY: Ted Cruz is displaying significant cognitive-emotional dissonance. This particular facial expression cluster/amalgam projects thought-emotions of arrogance, condescension, disgust, frustration, impatience, and anger.
continued...
/ While he is hyperbolic w/ his facial expressions, Cruz has a very limited body language facial display repertoire. This is a kin to a person w/ a limited verbal vocabulary who shouts. This pattern alone places Cruz at a very high likelihood for sociopathy/psychopathy (APD)...
/ Always be leery of what a man is about to say (correlating it with the question which was just asked to him) just after he puts his hand(s) in his pocket(s).
