#Afghanistan & Opium- We supply 80% of world's opium. It makes up 15% of our economy. The Afghan mafia makes the Mexican cartel look like a bunch of nursery children. They are brutal & deadly. I was part of a unit trained by the British to deal with them & intelligence gathering Image
Opium trade is a lucrative business. The farmers see no other alternative but to grow opium as they can make huge sums of money very quickly compared to growing potatoes or some other silly fruits. #Taliban and the Mafia have a working relationship. Image
#Taliban offer protection to the farmers, farmer's grow opium, the Mafia transfers the opium outside the borders towards Europe, the money returning is shared between the farmer, Mafia and Taliban. Taliban used this money to pay foot soldiers and buy weapons.
Taliban needed the opium money to finance their insurgency. Now that they have won the war, I presume they will cut this source of this funding. They consider it un-islamic. According to #Taliban philosophy, opium is OK during war and not OK during peace.
In the spring of 2020 when #Taliban launched their spring offensive, this war on opium was largely abandoned. The pressure on the fronts was too much and the army was struggling. Our unit and myself joined the fight. Yes, the real war started in 2020 not in the last 3 month's.
We were discouraged by the Army not to push back during spring and summer of 2020. This was not to jeopardize the peace negotiations in Qatar. Taliban pushed steadily in the countryside. This give them the platform to launch their final offensive in the summer of 2021. Disaster!

There is an unofficial ban on resistance related news by the #Taliban regime. We also have a self-imposed ban in regards to social media. We lost three sub commanders due to SM. We are trying to figure out if their location was compromised through pictures they posted on SM.
Notice has been sent to all the commanders not to publish pictures. Pakistani intelligence officers are attached to some Taliban units. Specifically Badri and an unidentified unit based around Salang pass. We made contact with this unit in Andarab over the last 15 day's.
We were shadowing another Taliban unit for a while and we encircled them deep inside Andarab. This unit is responsible for beheading a young resistance fighter Infront of his wife. We suspect this unit is also responsible for killing a doctor and his entire family in Andarab.

#Facebook - Not many people use Twitter in Afghanistan. Afghans are mainly on Facebook. For 5 year's or so I run a Facebook page under the name "Tales of the Battlefields". I mainly posted pictures of different province's, told stories of our encounters with Taliban.
I had 100 friends or so. They were loyal friends, but unfortunately I never met them in person. We mainly talked about the social issues we were facing in Afghanistan and ways to resolve this never ending war. I posted pictures of our beautiful country but, never my own.
You see my friends, #Taliban will follow you to your door step if they knew who you are. Unlike the corrupt officials who drove around in bullet proof cars accompanied by bodyguards, we were on our own on the streets of Kabul when off duty.

Commander #SohrabAzimi - RIP
A man born in the 1990s, it would take him approximately 30-40 years after formal education and rising through the ranks in his chosen profession to really make an positive contribution to his country. Image
Had we had another 5 years we would have finally changed the misfortunes of our country. We would have reformed the army and set #Afghanistan on a permanent path to peace and prosperity. Something that our fathers failed before us. Unfortunately, we have joined that list.
There were many young men rising rapidly through the ranks in the army and were about to replace these incompetent fools. There were young men rising throughout the #Afghan society in general. We were betrayed by our corrupt, criminal and coward elders. Now Abroad!

The mother of Talib is just like our mother. Mother's are all the same throughout the world. The bond a Talib has with his mother is similar to the bond we have with our mothers. Their women is similar to our women in general.
Taliban do not become misogynistic men in their mother's arms. He goes through a complex process and brainwashing that turns him into an extremist. This happens when he leaves home and joins the local Taliban franchise. That's when he develops the prejudice against women.
When a Talib returns home after a few months in the mountains with his friends, most probably even his mother doesn't recognize him. Women do not play an active role in society in the south of the country. South is the most conservative part of the country. This is a problem!

#CheGuevara was killed in Bolivia some 54 years ago today. #AhmadShahMassoud and Che were both formidable guerilla commanders. They had so much in common and yet so different in ideology. They both fought for what they believed was right and a just cause for their people.
They were from different backgrounds and cultures. One was fighting for communism, whilst the other against communism. Che was jaguar of the jungle whilst Massoud was the snow leopard of the mountains. Both were charasmatic and deeply respected for their abilities on the field
Had they met- there would have been no need for a translator. They would have understood each others language. The language of taking on a far superior force with limited resources, but the might of your people behind you. The language of #GuerrillaWarfare. Men of the field!

#LastStand - According to our calculations, #Panjshir would have fallen in the beginning of October had we made a last stand. Our ammunitions and fuel supplies would have lasted until around this time. I am glad the commanders who were in favour of a last stand were pushed aside
The reason why the resistance is still active is because of the withdrawal. There would have been no ambushes and no resistance had we made a stand. This allowed the leadership to move to other provinces to ignite the flames of resistance.
Withdrawal is the reason why we have resistance in our province. It is the reason why there is resistance in the surrounding provinces. We carried the flames of resistance from #PanjshirValley to our own valleys throughout the mighty Hindu Kush.
