This morning @AndrewMarr9 asked @EdwardJDavey repeatedly "What is wrong with the phrase woman - adult human female?". Davey couldn't even bring himself to say the word 'woman' in response.

Asked about a real woman in his party - @Nat_freespeech who's been banned from standing for any LibDem position - Davey made no response. Still he could only repeat the thought-terminating cliches and mantras taught to him by Stonewall.

This is what erasure looks like. Asked a question about women, or a question about a particular woman, too many politicians dissemble and take refuge in cliches about trans rights. The language we use to name ourselves is being lost, and with it, the ability to discuss our lives.

With the loss of our language comes the loss of our history. The history recounted by @holyroodmandy in her blistering article today. Wiped from the record leaving older women dismissed as pearl-clutching bigots for defending the rights they fought for.

If we can't name our sex class as women, we can't name or talk about our experiences. We can't collect reliable data to calibrate women's experiences on a large scale, identify measures to reduce sexism, or ascertain whether interventions are working.

And if we can't talk about women, we can't defend our rights and spaces. When women as a sex class are airbrushed out, it will be the most vulnerable women who suffer most. Women in refuges, prisons, hospitals, those living in poverty who can't escape.

Some transactivists' demands are in conflict with specific women's rights. Politicians like Davey say they want public debate. But if you can't use the word 'woman' precisely and meaningfully, you can't identify those conflicts, much less address them.

We learned this week that @RosieDuffield1 is too scared to attend #LabourConference2021. This is where the failure of politicians to speak out about women's rights, and defend those who do, leads us. It's not good enough.

A few MPs are part of the band of zealots pressing extreme versions of gender identity ideology. They're small in number. Most know perfectly well what a woman is, and what women's rights are, but they're too scared to say so. Waiting for someone else to take the lead. Cowards.

We call on elected representatives. Be brave. You have constituents losing their jobs, colleagues targeted in public. Say something. Tweet your support for @RosieDuffield1 or @joannaccherry. Say it's not bigoted to defend women's rights. Don't be a Davey.
