1888-1893: how did the Hazara Genocide happend?

According to historian, #Hazarajat was often deemed as a semi-independent region. By 1891, apart from #Uruzgan (then Hazara dominated) every Hazarajat region was forced to pay heavy taxes to Abdul Rahman Khan.

Between 1880 and 1891, king Abdul Rahman Khan not only increased the already exorbitant taxes but introduced new ones throughout #Hazarajat, except Uruzgan which the mirs and khans of Hazara refused according to some accounts.

The introduction triple taxing Hazaras co-incided with the fact #Mohammadzai branch of Durranis (ruling elites) in #Kabul were receiving annual allowances from the Emir as partners of the state (i. e. sharik-e dawlat).

What according to few accounts of history was fatal for Hazaras was the appointment Abdul Quddus Khan as governor of Bamiyan, who was tasked with the authority of subjugating the still-autonomous Hazarajat by any means necessary (Uruzgan in particular)!

According to historian Jonathan Lee, Abdul Quddus Khan was “somewhat fanatical in matters of religion …a #Tory of the most crusted type in politics, and an apostle of #Afghanistan for Pashtuns.”

Abdul Rahman handpicked “hard-line Sunni and Pashtun supremacist" according to Lee to teach Hazaras a never forgetting lesson, which was catastrophic for #Hazaras.

When Abdul Quddus entered Bamiyan, his army began imprisoning and executing #Hazara Mirs & Khans (i.e. Local leaders), disarming population, raping Hazara women and imposing ‘Sunni rites’ on mainly shia population of region inuding parts of Ghorband Valley.

Fayz Mohammad Katib (father of Afghanistan's history, a title given by previous govs) says the state's troops and officials violated the dignity married and unmarried equally. Being Hazara was enough to reason be raped.

The level of raping, imprisoning, killing and taxes reached a level that Hazarajat people rcould no longer tolerate the oppression and tyranny of Abdul Rahman Khan

Subsequently, Hazaras were forced to evict their land in many provinces, most noticeably from Uruzgan. Uruzgan untill then was Hazara dominated region, but Hazara land in Uruzgan was confiscated and given as spoil of war to Afghan tribes who helped Abdul Rahman Khan.

Hazaras also lost land in places like Zabul, Ghorband amongst other places.

Most accounts suggest north of 60% of Hazaras were murdered, enslaved, forcefully displaced. A genocide!
