From the mouths of teachers at #UAlberta under #COVID19AB. Quote RT to add your own:
"I saw 14 people not masking yesterday on my way to a meeting. 14. I couldn't throw out my garbage because there were 3 unmasked students beside it."
"I went through Humanities Centre yesterday yelling "mask" but the unmasked can't hear me cuz they have earbuds in, doing their online classes in the hallway." Unmasked while doing so, obviously.
"We are so screwed. Abandoned .... There are no adults on duty."
ie) administrators @BFlanaganUofA and central admin all working from home and have no idea what's going on in classes and hallways.
Edmonton zone cases were 5,430 as of Sept 27. Uni stale-reports 30 cases for Sept12-18 on a page that says it was last updated Sept 24.
ie) we don't know how much Covid is transmitting on campus
"The mouse droppings have reappeared in my office." ie) we have a mouse infestation in HC and they brought the party while the building was closed last year -- mouse poop everywhere. Adds to the health benefits of working at #UAlberta
Another instructor relayed that a student removed her mask to sneeze in class. Yet more instructors have reported #COVIDAB cases in classes of 200-300 students. We are asked not to tell our students, and the PHRT will notify.
Another instructor teaches in a room after a prof who recently tested positive (her TAs relayed this).
The classrooms are not cleaned between classes; there is no access to cleaning supplies for teachers (who are teachers!) to do so.
Instructors buy masks to bring to class for students are unmasked. In dept meetings leaders speak about feeling reminders about masking are not safe interventions to make with students. #highered#COVID19AB@demetriosnAB@TheAASUA@UnionNASA@CupeAB
More from the mouths of teachers at #UAlberta under #COVID19AB and the failures of #Kenney and the UCP. Feel free to add your own.
"I asked my students online yesterday for a bit of a report on campus from their POV. 1/4
They said, rapid testing is a gong show (hard to get in, too many people); unclear what the rules are or whom to ask about them; thousands of students on campus and really no precautions at all apart from some masks. One said, 2/4
the systems for the unvaxxed are so hard to comply with and enforcement nonexistent that it's hard to believe that unvaxxed students aren't just shrugging and showing up anyway. Another student is recovering from COVID and hence won't meet the vax deadline for valid reasons & 3/4
Uni says over 95% self-declared they would be by August 30, but avg response rate was only 52%. Survey data, extrapolated as uni did in its reassurance, says by Aug 30 : 43% of undergrads; 55% of grad students; 1/4
and 57% of instructors/profs/librarians would be fully vaxxed ualberta.ca/covid-19/updat… @UAlberta please publish the data set for current statements campus is over 90% fully vaxxed? 2/4
Thread based on shared results from the 44% of undergrads @UASUualberta (14,897 of 34,108 registered); 55% of grad students @ualbertaGSA (4,554 of 8,202 registered), & 57% of #UAlberta@AASUA members (instructors, librarians) (2,321 of 4,100) responding 3/4
