In his ruling, Justice Thompson says “methods of enforcement of the court's order have led to serious and substantial infringement of civil liberties, including impairment of the freedom of the press to a marked degree” #FairyCreek
Of forest defenders, the Justice says: “They are respectful, intelligent, and peaceable by nature. They are good citizens in the important sense that they care intensely about the common good” 👏💯 #FairyCreekbccourts.ca/jdb-txt/sc/21/…
“Enforcement has been carried out by police officers rendered anonymous to the protesters, many of those police officers wearing 'thin blue line' badges. All of this has been done in the name of enforcing this Court's order." #FairyCreek
Forest defenders continue to risk their safety for remaining old growth forests. This ruling is a testament to their strength and perseverance — and another call to action for the @bcndp to honour their promises and stop logging at-risk, old growth forests 🌲#FairyCreek#bcpoli

Ever heard that Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is a climate-friendly fuel? Well, you’ve been sold a lie. LNG, made up of methane, is one of the fastest growing threats to our climate. RT to expose the truth about #LNG. #bcpoli#cdnpoli
Didn't think we'd need to say this, but the responses we're getting on this tweet really prove our point: the fossil fuel industry has done a great job convincing the public that "natural gas" is good. It's not. Read more here: vox.com/energy-and-env…
In B.C., methane emissions amounted to an estimated 8.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2017, according to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. That’s equal to 1,724,724 vehicles on the road for one year. Read more: thenarwhal.ca/climate-change…

Local leaders from U.S. & Canada will speak at #ClimateWeekNYC to share #SAFECities strategies to use regulatory policies to phase out fossil fuels:
Today an explosive new report on old growth recommended immediate logging deferrals for the most at-risk old forests across BC. So far, the BC government’s response has left most of those areas on the chopping block.
BC has yet more evidence for the need to defend old forests, and a clear path for next steps. Today’s announcement from the province shows they have a ways to go before we can be sure they are adhering to those recommendations. We need more deferrals for at-risk old growth, ASAP.
BC announced a large deferral area in Clayoquot Sound, and while a significant portion of this area was already protected, it is an important step forward. The visionary leadership of Indigenous Nations is advancing an inspiring future for their people, land & waters.
We still have a chance to defend old growth forests in BC. But barely.
There are only about 415,000 hectares of old forest remaining where you can find large trees. To put that in perspective, that’s less than 1% of forests in the entire province.
The majority are unprotected.
Our communities depend on these old forests staying standing. Healthy forests provide clean air, drinking water, and mitigate flooding & fires. They also store massive amounts of carbon and are more resilient to climate change. That’s top of mind with so much smoke in the air.
Healthy forests mean a better future. Protecting the fraction of remaining old growth and transitioning to value-added, second-growth milling is vital to ensure forest communities and forestry are thriving and sustainable in the longterm.

Step 2: Fashion brands have a GHG problem because they manufacture where coal-fired power is a large proportion of grid electricity and they even have plans for more coal! #FossilFreeFashion
