Dr Markland is my favourite medical storyteller in Alberta, but I'm aching for the days when he can come home fulfilled from a great day at work, spend time with his family, then have the option to tell uplifting medical stories.
Dear @strombone1 - I hope you don't mind me referring to you for this analogy.
Most healthcare workers just want to make save after save, appreciated but not world-famous, and then go home to their families, and spend time recharging & enjoying life.
@strombone1 They want to be like this privately, or if called out in public, like this.
Instead, Alberta's healthcare workers are the world-class goalie, watching rest of team get pulled off the ice during sudden-death 4OT
1, 2 skaters gone - goalie yelling WTF at Coach
3,4 gone - goalie screaming up to GM & Owner
5 gone - goalie is begging to fans to get help.
In USA, leaders say "Hopes & Prayers" and "Don't exploit death for politics" when they must control guns.
Alberta?
• 2nd/3rd Wave "Personal Responsibility"
• 3rd/4th Wave "Get Vaccinated - Your Choice"
• 4th Wave "Endemic" and "Modelling"
Not real "Public Health Measures".
Correction: it isn't 816 Albertans in Hospital from COVID-19, it is 1084.
268 in ICU; 816 in non-ICU.
• Many of the 816 would be in ICU if it were not full
• So eg. Internal Medicine wards without Ventilators do their best to keep those folks alive until ICU spot w Vent opens

In my 14 Sep thread:
• I quoted @cfrangou 13 Sep thread,
• who did some prescient reporting on CMOH's presentation to the Primary Care Network at 6pm on that night of Monday 13 September
• including the video, which was taken PRIVATE the next morning.
When Test Positivity stuttered in September, then peaked in mid-September (urban mask mandates & restrictions) experts with @PopAlberta kept warning of danger.
My analogy then was a 1000-km wide wildfire at 80 km/h.
Because there weren't strong province-wide safety measures.
This weekend feels like seeing a Cat 5 hurricane bearing down on a remote island on Fri evening, knowing we won't hear for some days until power & telecom are back, praying for few deaths & devastation when they're out.
Except we're not a remote island in open ocean. We're in Alberta, supposedly a modern society.
The hurricane has not passed. We've just had outer bands pass through. Rain, wind, storm surge, etc.
The 250 km/h eyewall is still coming. Major casualties. Hail & Devastation.
Modern society? Let's compare AB to City of Chicago
Just finished watching @PopAlberta special on:
• protecting children too young to vaccinate
• learning that the risk in schools SEEMS to be scientific: #COVIDisAirborne but is ACTUALLY political
• Learn how to address this at home, school & your MLAs.
Last night @CMOH_Alberta gave a presentation to Alberta family docs, and I got a chance to see it and take screenshots before the video was set to Private.
Whenever a politician wants to give you "Context", be wary of Deceptive Framing.
