This is typical Bernie Sanders. It’s what he did year after year as Chairman of the Senate Vets Committee. He’s an ideologue that constantly overreaches. He ends up blowing up the whole deal, rather than recognizing the political reality needed to compromise and get things done…
Sanders is the master of “omnibus” bills that never pass. It was a chronic problem when he was Chair of the Senate Vets Committee. It’s why McCain was able to break him in 2014. And it’s why his record of passing things as SVAC Chair was so poor: nytimes.com/2016/02/07/us/…
Sanders sometimes presented good and noble ideas. But they were often totally unrealistic in an environment where Republicans get a vote. Too often, held out on ideology, and veterans paid the price for the legislative logjams. The examples are many: militarytimes.com/news/2016/02/1…
Sanders’ record of getting things done (and providing oversight) as Chair of SVAC is awful. And it’s in stark contrast with both recent chairs: Republican @SenatorIsakson and Democrat @SenatorTester. Both worked across party lines and got big things done: nytimes.com/2017/07/10/us/…
SVAC is a useful case study as the urgent, overdue infrastructure need now hangs in the balance. Partisans & ideologues are killing our country’s ability to get big things done. Vets were/are dying, bridges are collapsing—stakes are too high for this shit. America needs results.
And for all of you who wanted Sanders over Biden, just imagine how all this would be going down right now if Sanders was President. With this Senate, he’d get NOTHING done.
And after that thread, cue the Twitter attacks on me from Bernie Sanders supporters, bots, sock puppets, and other uniquely intense, nasty and many accounts on this website.

That speech by Marsha Blackburn was one of the most manipulative & dangerous I’ve ever heard. Definitely of this week so far. Our police & military don’t belong to ANY party. They serve (and represent) all Americans. Any other message is total politicization of the highest level.
“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.” Tonight’s #RNC2020 theme is "Land of Heroes." Tonight is likely to be the most dishonest, manipulative and dangerous night. Don’t buy it. Don’t let them do it. They don’t own the flag...
Our military, police and vets don’t belong to Trump. Or Pence. Or the Republicans. Or the Democrats. Our men and women in uniform serve (and represent) all of us. They are Republicans, Democrats, independents and everything else. And they’re not props...

Here it is. The smoking gun. Trump and @SecWilkie used dying vets as guinea pigs. “For more than two weeks in April, a drug regimen that included hydroxychloroquine was routinely dispensed at the struggling center, often for patients who had not been tested for covid-19”
“Though precise estimates vary, the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs said about 30 residents received the drug. Several nursing home staff members placed the number higher.”
“The Chester County coroner, who reviewed the medical records for some of those who died, said at least 11 residents who had received the hydroxychloroquine treatment had not been tested for covid-19.”

“The fact is I could have been George Floyd. I could have been Ahmaud Arbery. I could have been Christian Cooper.” VERY powerful, brave and important piece by ⁦@JeremyButler01⁩, CEO of @IAVA. He is a leader America needs to hear now. #BlackOutTuesday iava.org/blog/read-why-…
“It’s about being black while driving, black while shopping, black while doing anything. And yet, I am proud to wear the Navy uniform. As a veteran of the Iraq War...my love of this country and my desire to serve it both in and out of uniform has not changed.” -@JeremyButler01
“But love of country and patriotism don’t mean unconditional loyalty. Dedication to service does not mean blind servitude. It means acknowledging that we live in a deeply flawed country while also working hard to make it better.” -@JeremyButler01

Every since I mentioned @KamalaHarris in a Tweet a few days ago, the torrent of horrendously insulting, racist, misogynistic & obscene things Tweeted at me about her by Trumpers & trolls is like nothing I’ve ever seen. And it was compounded when @LauraIngraham Tweeted at me. 1/8
It’s been a unique experience-to say the least. I thought Harris had a good quote about Trump’s July4 thing—which she did. I’m an observer and critic of politicians of all sides. And I’m not even a Harris supporter. Or a Democrat. But I am a supporter of civility and respect. 2/8
And the lack of civility and respect shown towards Harris in public forums is just a glimpse into what she, her family, and her campaign must be already dealing with—and will surely only increase in the days ahead. And it’s unique to her as a black woman. 3/8
