The question I hear the most from Germans these last 2 weeks: why are the people not protesting? Are they not worried?
I have no answer. #BrexitDisaster
I start with explaining Patel’s restrictions on protest, but then I think: why did we not protest against that?
Next I suggest that people are worried about COVID, but then I think: we could organise it properly and manage rosk, but doing nothing is worse
I could blame the lack of an opposition, but I know that #WeAreTheOppositionNow, and we cannot descend into apathy over the misguided approach of opposition parties. We need to start demanding.
By now I usually run out of ideas to explain the silence. So often I just sadly say I don’t know, because I really can’t understand it.

Maybe we should change tack and - instead of concentrating on corrupt politicians - spend our efforts on changing our own approach to society and take on the challenge of reform in #Britain. #WATON
Thread.....
2/ Many Brits are stunned to find themselves in a situation that appears unchangeable and dismal. Reactions range from disbelief, regret of not acting differently earlier, resignation, anger and sadness. “How could this have happened? “ is a question I heard countless times.
2/ Comparisons with 1933 Germany are made, and similarities are there. But nobody is really examining how Germany got over this (with Allied help) to develop the democracy they have now. Lessons of failures and successes could be learned
When have we/the media stopped asking the difficult questions and are we damaging our cause?
A thread…..1/ #WATON#GE2019
2/ The #GE2019 is fought over big issues aside from Brexit. It’s a great tactic, if you don’t forget Brexit…..which is what is happening. We are living a re-hash of 2017. The B-word is reduced to slogans on the right and #Cakeism on the left. Best avoided by the leaders.
3/ It is almost as if they are not pressed for detail because we cynically believe we already know the answer they will give. But that just deprives us of ways to make our case.
2/ The scheme seems to be OPEN NOW to EUCitizens that have been here for more than 5 years! We should mass apply - they want to test the system, so test we shall.
3/ I had no communication from the HO on this at all, unlike previous emails I received regarding Settled Status, so they seem to try and keep this low key. We need to document our experiences and copy in the relevant campaign groups as well as our EU representatives! 🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺
As far as I am concerned, the time to convert Leavers is over. Thread. 1/
2/ Since the referendum we meticulously collated facts, enlisted people who know their stuff - from politicians over scientists, business owners, teachers and healthcare professionals. All walks of life, all nationalities represented in modern Britain
3/ We presented facts, figures, estimates, graphs, cartoons.... you name it. Even songs and breakfasts. We reached out and stayed patient when we were yelled at and called enemies of the people. Some people were assaulted.
Still on track with my predictions from last year. 1/ Gov most successfully managed to stall negotiations while throwing a mirade of conflicting promises around to keep us entertained. At the same time the distractions increase in outlandishness>
2/ Russia, Irish Border chaos (I do not believe for a second they do not have a plan for this), throwing in random arms deals to keep up appearances. All the while: Davis did not visit Brusssels once this year, EU had to suspend negotiations, ..>
3/ All this with 4 months left until summer recess. In September it will ve too late for anything but either hard or no Brexit. We have not heard any substantial suggestions from Gov for a few weeks now, and we have stopped being demanding because...>
