Part of my conversation with @jasongriffing on @roamsessions this Thursday will detail how I not only implement but also EXECUTE a GTD-style productivity system in @RoamResearch
#GTD makes amazing lists. But lists can pile up. My Daily Cycle helps solve that.
My Daily Cycle is the “metawork” I do every day to stay on top of my work and keep my attention in the right place at the right time.
It’s (mostly) friction-free and easy to engage with, which makes it more likely I’ll do it!
My Daily Cycle has 4 steps:
2/🧵
1. Choose your work
- Surface work from my GTD “back end” at the right time and in the right context
- Plan a daily [[Agenda]] based on what my system surfaces
I may not follow the plan exactly, but the agenda makes it far more likely “future me” will be productive
3 /🧵
2. Track your work as you do it
I keep a [[Log]] of my work. This helps me:
- Commit to doing one thing at a time
- Record what I’m doing and when I’m doing it for later review (as needed)
With a simple SmartBlock, logging my work is easy and takes no time at all
4 /🧵
3. Capture your ideas, tasks, projects, etc.
This is the GTD Inbox. Benefits:
- Not tying up “brain resources” to remember stuff
- Avoiding the illusion of urgency created when you do a task “just so you won’t forget it”
You won’t—it’s in your Inbox!
5 /🧵
4. Connect what you captured to your work
- Process your Inbox with the 4 Ds: Do, Defer, Delegate, or Delete
- Link what you Defer or Delegate into your work system
This lets you surface your work when appropriate—which ties into “Choose your work” to complete the cycle

My 8-week live cohort course AP Productivity teaches you how to create your own Daily Cycle. Plus, I’m there to guide and coach you as you iterate to make it a robust and reliable system.
If running your productivity system in @RoamResearch sounds amazing, but you’re not sure it would work for you, check out this testimonial video from AP Productivity Cohort One:

1. You are a @RoamResearch user 2. You would love to move your task management system into Roam 3. You haven't because Roam can't handle recurring tasks
Saddle up, fellow Roaman. I've got your solution and you'll have it up and running in no time.

This video—"How to Create Reliable & Robust Recurring Tasks in Roam Research"—has everything you need to get going.
I'll explain a bit here on Twitter so you know what you're getting into.
When people struggle with #GTD, it’s usually because they can get their LISTS made—Projects, Next Actions, etc.—but tasks pile up faster than they can work.
That means longer lists, and more “next actions” than could possibly be done “next.”
When I’m writing a script or a scene in a novel—or prepping content for videos or blog posts—I brainstorm/gather for a while and then organize it into an outline.
Outlines get a bad rap: folks think too much structure is restrictive—that it limits your creative freedom. 2/
But that’s wrong. Outlines GIVE you freedom.
If you know where you’re going and roughly how to get there, when you switch modes to writing, you’re free to explore. You can wander freely, knowing you have a map in case you get lost. 3/
