I just released the first 12 videos of my YouTube playlist The Roaman Way!

Learn the fundamentals of @RoamResearch in just a few minutes per topic.

It's also available in a free course—just follow the link in the description of one of the videos.

One of my favorite videos from the playlist doesn't include any specific @RoamResearch examples at all! It's an overview of "how Roam thinks"—

Because once you learn to think like Roam, Roam can learn to think like you!

For anyone interested in my AP Productivity course, the Early Bird discount is about to end!

Here’s something I hear from new #Roamans on a regular basis:

"I'd love to use @RoamResearch for managing tasks and projects, but I'm afraid I'll lose track of them."

or

"I'm worried I'll set things up the wrong way and it won't work."

or… 👇

1/🧵
“I’ve used every #productivity app out there. They all start out amazing but after a few weeks things pile up and then I get lazy and it stops working. Why should I invest EXTRA effort to create a custom system in Roam when the real problem is ME and no app can fix that?”

2/🧵
Let’s set aside the fact that it ISN’T you (it’s system friction).

If you’re still reading this thread 3 tweets in, then you’ve seen the magic of Roam and you want that magic to be working for YOU and YOUR work.

Is that possible? (spoiler 🚨: It is!)

We take #productivity too personally.

When we don't finish what we planned for a day, we think it's our lack of discipline.

When we leave a project hanging for weeks, it's a failure of willpower.

But productivity reflects process, not character. And THAT'S an easier fix!

1/🧵
Even if we accept that, we often expect to build perfect productivity processes immediately.

And when we DON'T—when our new system doesn't solve all our problems from day one—we feel like we've failed again.

But you can't build version 5.0 before the alpha, beta, and 1.0!

2/🧵
You craft a productivity system the way a sculptor chisels marble.

- You rough in the general shape you need
- You lop off that which doesn't serve your vision
- You hone and fine tune that which DOES

You'll have alpha & beta systems before you get to 1.0—& that's okay!

Part of my conversation with @jasongriffing on @roamsessions this Thursday will detail how I not only implement but also EXECUTE a GTD-style productivity system in @RoamResearch

#GTD makes amazing lists. But lists can pile up. My Daily Cycle helps solve that.

Read on 👇

1/🧵
My Daily Cycle is the “metawork” I do every day to stay on top of my work and keep my attention in the right place at the right time.

It’s (mostly) friction-free and easy to engage with, which makes it more likely I’ll do it!

My Daily Cycle has 4 steps:

2/🧵
1. Choose your work

- Surface work from my GTD “back end” at the right time and in the right context
- Plan a daily [[Agenda]] based on what my system surfaces

I may not follow the plan exactly, but the agenda makes it far more likely “future me” will be productive

If...

1. You are a @RoamResearch user
2. You would love to move your task management system into Roam
3. You haven't because Roam can't handle recurring tasks

Saddle up, fellow Roaman. I've got your solution and you'll have it up and running in no time.

1/🧵
This video—"How to Create Reliable & Robust Recurring Tasks in Roam Research"—has everything you need to get going.

I'll explain a bit here on Twitter so you know what you're getting into.

2/🧵

My system relies on three things:

1. SmartBlocks V2 (thanks @dvargas92495 & @TfTHacker!)

2. workBench from Roam42 (again, thanks gentlemen!)

3. Five simple SmartBlocks and a workBench Inbox I created

The video in the tweet above will lead you to all of those.

I'm even MORE convinced that @RoamResearch is the best choice for productivity.

Let me tell you (1) why you should build YOUR productivity system in Roam, and (2) why the potential hurdles aren't as substantial as they seem.

1/🧵
First, let's be clear what I mean by "productivity."

It isn't getting "lots of stuff" done. It's getting IMPORTANT work done.

Roam helps me get lots of important work done—FAR more than any app I've used previously.

And I've used many other apps!

2/🧵

Why build your productivity system in @RoamResearch?

1. Tasks & Projects can be deeply integrated with notes and supporting materials.

2. Tasks can be created anywhere without losing flow. Just tag them and move to the next block. They'll show up where you need them.
