Yeah, finally i can say it: i've saw the pílot of #YTheLastMan and this little thread will show my feelings about it. Spoiler alert: i like it. A LOT.
The pilot shows a hsitory very close to the start of the comic book series, with all the men dying except Yorick and his little monkey Ampersand. But thematically, it plays way different. #YTheLastMan
The series is definitely a woman's world since the start, there is just man enough to the women side not be highlighted as such. We saw different women what looks like will be essential to the wrecked world Yorick will have to face it. #YTheLastMan
The politics of not just where is the place a woman have to be, but how all the main character are their relationship with man slowly fading away, like a premonitory disconection of her not been enough, while in the case is all about the Men not be enough anymore. #YTheLastMan
And all this break-ups or almost break-up situations ended to be reflections of the incoming doom. From failing marriages, to non-assumed sleepovers, to double-crosses, women are there to stand into the ground, in the same way Yorick is too [+] #YTheLastMan
but at the end, men are the problem, and now men are dead. #YTheLastMan wisely uses the Trump Era to reflect extremists, rights to equality and the feeling of realization by balance overall, [+]
which make his releasing and most of shooting during a pandemic eerie important to be discussed. And in a world without men, will many of the things pathriarchy imposed over all us will remain stay? Women really believe in that? Why? #YTheLastMan
But around all that, we have Yorick, and he just want to be happy with his girlfirend, and feeling realized professionally as a magiain. But as many from his generations, reality shatters the illusion of a happy ending without consequence. #YTheLastMan
(Finally got a excuse to use this GIF) #YTheLastMan
But some interesting changes were made, to fullfill a season worth of episodes, and also plays the same drama of the comics from a different perspective. [+] #YTheLastMan
In special, Hero Brown have the most heavier change from the books, but is nice see more of Agent 335 and how stone cold she is (and how the governament is using her to hide their own shady bussiness). #YTheLastMan
Dane Lane keeps the ball high in a amazing performance as Jennifer (and is soo nice see her talents be used in more out-of-the-box projects again), and i can't see other person now Yorick as Ben Schnetzer. #YTheLastMan
He have the charm, gravitas and weight to deliver killer perfomance from humor to drama. And the VFX work on Ampersand is INSANELY good. looks and acts with the envirement as a real monkey. #YTheLastMan
But for me, the highçlight of the episode was when the Men died, closing up all the build during the pilot, and the deaths are BRUTAL as it should be with most of the population die from nowhere. Is chaos and blood for a men's world now dead. #YTheLastMan
Also, the male animals also died, what helps the show build up the mystery of why the death happens in the way that happens, and how slowly the episode build the major killing by making the animals appearences more gore and gruesome along the acts. #YTheLastMan
In resume, #YTheLastMan took a immense long time for be done (remember when Shia Labeoulf would play Yorick, in a movie directed by DJ Caruso?), but the wait was worthy for the comic comes in the right format in place. I'll look the next episodes with heavy interest.
And as the now tradition: the theme on the month gets a t-shirt on my store. Go there and get yours if you liked and support the page! #YTheLastManteespring.com//ampersand-the…
I really, REALLY dislike discuss B.O numbers, because for me is the least interesting part of any movie discussion and most people do the stupid thing of think money means quality, but we need to talk about #TheSuicideSquad for a moment.
Look, the point is: #TheSuicideSquad is a REALLY expensive R-rated movie. Is one of these movie what are mostly a bet, knowing the R-rated limitations of the US wouldn't be necessary applied on other places.
We doesnt know how the movie would perform in a no-COVID scenario, and is unfair compare with other recent R-Rated movies release this year (like Conjuring 3 and A Quite Place) for the single reason they didnt have the Delta Variant when was released. #TheSuicideSquad
OK,m #TheSuicideSquad is coming this week, so lets see some reading recommendations before the movie, lets follow it:
Lets start with some classic Ostrander stuff: Juttunheim was introduced in the two-parter arc 'Trial by Blood/Trial by Fire', what also officially reintroduces the modern interaction of team. Essential Squad reading. #TheSuicideSquad
'The Janus Directive': mKobra criminal organization plots to destroy to the world, but not without putting the main governament security agencies of the DC Universe against each other, including Argus, Checkmate and Project Peacemaker. #TheSuicideSquad
@THR OK, some points worth talking:
- is interesting of all PR moves they could do at this point, they chose focusing on comics. Maybe because Fandome 2.0 is imminent, is important make some things clear.
@THR - Lots of talk about South America, international markets and globalizing. Not just casting foreign actors and diretors for movies, but dont be surprise when 'DC Universe' comes internationally real soon.
Is officially August 2021, month of release of #TheSuicideSquad, directed by James Gunn with a stellar cast! Watch the movie on theaters and HBO MAX in August 5th, and a review right after the film release.
Well... lets finally talk about #TheSuicideSquad. Yes, spoilers ahead and no, will not be said nice things about it. Thread follows.
Lets start by the obvious things: if there is a DCEU, it will choose by finger which is canon or not, if still exists overall. The movie cleary exists in its own bubble, and even there is same actors, he chooses by finger what they want from the previous movie. #TheSuicideSquad
Ok lets start by the main difference: the first one is way heavy-centric on the investigation and the mystery of who is Holiday killer, and that not the question aren't made along the movie of who he is, but the Part 2 is WAY more character centric. #BatmanTheLongHalloween
The journey of Bruce Wayne and the different interactions along the second half of the "Long Halloween" is really a heavy examination of why he's fighting for as Batman, and what means for him as Bruce Wayne. #BatmanTheLongHalloween
