DC's newest film, #TheSuicideSquad, is now finally out. Here are my thoughts on the movie. Spoilers follow ❗️ (1/17)
I saw this movie on August 6, the day it came out. I was pretty excited to see what the Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn would do with a team of unknown villains this time rather than heroes, and I wasn't disappointed. (2/17)
Just like in the Guardians movie, Gunn managed to put together a collection of very different people and focus them on one common goal. The difference in this movie was that he had much more freedom and could make it focused toward mature audiences. (3/17)
I really, REALLY dislike discuss B.O numbers, because for me is the least interesting part of any movie discussion and most people do the stupid thing of think money means quality, but we need to talk about #TheSuicideSquad for a moment.
Look, the point is: #TheSuicideSquad is a REALLY expensive R-rated movie. Is one of these movie what are mostly a bet, knowing the R-rated limitations of the US wouldn't be necessary applied on other places.
We doesnt know how the movie would perform in a no-COVID scenario, and is unfair compare with other recent R-Rated movies release this year (like Conjuring 3 and A Quite Place) for the single reason they didnt have the Delta Variant when was released. #TheSuicideSquad
Went to the comedy club here for the first time in 20 years to see @PreacherLawson, who we loved from America's Got Talent a couple of years ago. He was incredibly likable, funny, and enjoyable despite never being profane a single time.
On the contrary, there's the new #TheSuicideSquad movie, which is an example of what happens when a filmmaker like James Gunn is given no restrictions at all -- not even the loosening standards of today's PG-13 rated movies (and I'm hardly a prude).
The movie lacks nearly the charm and engaging storylines of his Guardians of the Galaxy movies. But there is a ridiculous scene where a young daughter and her incarcerated dad exchange a series of "F-yous" over the course of several minutes.
Here is a non-spoilery comment about #TheSuicideSquad.
I watched the trailers many times, and couldn't help but think Bloodsport was going to just be a stand-in character for Deadshot, due to Will Smith's unavailabilty.
I was SO wrong.

I was convinced he was going to be the trade-in for Deadshot. I had no idea he would have the most interesting and compelling emotional moments of the entire film.
It has got to be tough, stealing scenes from much more outrageous characters, but he did it over and over.

Just an absolute tribute to Idris Elba's acting and charisma, and @JamesGunn's brilliant writing and direction. In a movie with a giant starfish, they managed some genuinely subtle and moving moments with Bloodsport.
