Avocados are highly adapted to different rainfall conditions, however, a well distributed annual rainfall of up to 1600 mm is optimal for good production. Climatic conditions with alternating dry and rainy seasons are best for avocados.

Irrigation is essential where rainfall is not adequate.

Too much rain during flowering causes flower abortion resulting in significant reduction in production. Fungal diseases are also problematic in very wet weather.
A short period of dry weather of up to two months usually triggers flowering especially in tropical climates not subject to marked falls in temperature
The avocado tree requires high relative humidity at flowering, about 70-80 %, then moderate levels during the fruit swelling stage. Too much humidity encourages the proliferation of pests and diseases such as scales, scab and anthracnose among others.

Most Grapes 🍇 rootstocks are adapted to many soil conditions. The selection of a suitable rootstock is based on the following criteria;

Resistance to Phytophthora root rot

Tolerance to drought and other soil conditions like low pH

#Naivas
#Farming
#biodiversity
Adaptation to soil depth and texture.

Resistance to crown gall Agrobacterium tumefaciens. This bacterium weakens vines by encouraging the production of large amounts of cytokinins and auxins that induce excessive cell division and elongation.

Strawberry 🍓🍓 takes around 70 days to mature. Usually, fruits are ready for harvesting 4–6 weeks after blossoming and only the fully ripened (red) berries should be picked because they do not ripen after harvesting.

#The5thAt55 #tuesdaymotivations #Curfew
Strawberries should picked in the morning when the fruits are cool and while dry because when wet, they mold quickly. Soon after harvesting, the berries should be stored unwashed in cool, dry place like in a refrigerator, where they can last for 5-7 days.
Strawberry farming does best in areas whose soil PH is 5.5 6-6.5. The soil should be well drained and weed-free. The crop thrives in hot climate and does not tolerate frost or extremely low temperatures.

Unlike most cash crops, the nut-bearing tree is environmentally resilient, hardy and is adapted to lower regions.

The Macadamia tree is native to Australia and was first introduced to Kenya in 1946 by Bob Harris.

The guava fruit is a highly palatable and nutritious tropical fruit with a pleasant flavor. It is abundant at moderate prices in Kenya. ... Guavas were reported to grow naturally by most (83.9%) respondents although 37% plant the guava tree

#StateHouse #mondaythoughts ImageImageImage
Guava trees grow rapidly and fruit in 2 to 4 years from seed. They live 30 to 40 years but productivity declines after the 15th year.

Trees are more commonly propagated via cuttings and layering
Despite the high production of guavas in the country, processing remains extremely low (3.1%) due to limited knowledge (74.8%) and lack of appropriate equipment (65.9%) leading to the fruit’s economic under exploitation.
