In 1067 AD Dai Abdulla came Khambhat from Haraz Yemen. He was sent here to preach the Ismaili sect by Ismaili head Mullah of Yemen Arabia. In 11 to 13 century many Gujarati upper castes Brahmin, Nagar & Vanik adopted Islam & became Shia Vhora under influence of Mustali preachers.
Vhora/Vora is also the surname of upper castes Brahmin, Nagar & Vanik Hindu communities of Gujarat. Some Shia Ismaili Vhora families came into Gujarat with their Mota Mullaji-spiritual head from Aden in 1539 AD.
Sub-sects of Mustali Shia Ismaili Vhora:- Jafari, Sulaymani, Alia, Nagoshi and Daudi. Mustali Shia Ismaili preachers preached their religion freely in Gujarat without any obstruction from Gujarat Hindu kings up to the 13th century.
In middle age from 14th century Shia Ismaili sect Saints, Mullah & preachers were harassed by Gujarat's Muslim rulers as they were Sunni Muslims. In old-time Vhora Muslims were known also as 'Lotia' in Gujarat because of their Lota (metal water jug without handle) shape turban.
11th century Mustali Shia Ismaili preacher Dai Abdulla was a great scholar. He studied Hindu religion,customs & traditions at Khambhat & Patan.11-12th century Gujarat king Siddharaj Jaysinh Solanki went to Shia Mustali Ismaili Dai Abdulla to pay respects. He honoured Dai Abdulla.
In the 11th century & later many Gujarati Hindu including upper castes Brahmin, Nagar & Vanik adopted Islam & became Shia Vhora under influence of spiritual power & miracles of Shia Mustali Ismaili Saint Dai Abdulla.
In 14 & 15 century during Sultnat time, Shia Vhora were harassed & tortured by Sultans who were Sunni Muslim. So many Shia Vhora became Sunni. In 15 century founder of Ahmedabad Gujarat Sultan Ahmedshah killed Shia Vhora head Mullaji as he did not begin Ramzan as per Sunni rules.
In 1539 AD spiritual head of Shia Ismaili Vhora 24th Dai/Vada Mullaji Yusuf Najamuddin came from Yemen & founded 1st Gadi-seat at Siddhapur. Places of Gadi-seat of Dai-spiritual head of Shia Ismaili Daudi Vora from 1539 AD:- Siddhpur, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Ujjain, Burhanpur,Surat.
After death of Shia Mustali Ismaili Vhora's spiritual head 26th Dai Daudji in 1588 AD, they were divided into Sulaymani Vhora & Daudi Vhora. Shia Ismaili Vhora sub-sect Nagosi Vhora was founded in 1789 AD in Gujarat. Nagosi means no Gost (meat).These Nagosi Vhora were vegetarian.
Male names of Gujarati Vhora/Vora Muslims is suffixed by 'ali' or 'ji' e.g. Taiyabali, Musaji, Ganiji etc. Some Gujarati Vhora Muslim surname indicates their profession/goods or commodity they sell/their domicile city e.g. Nalwala, Rangwala, Rangoonwala etc.
In the 19 century, many Gujarati Vhora Muslims migrated to Africa, Burma (Myanmar), Malaya (Malesia & Singapore), Indonesia, Java-Sumatra, Aden & gulf countries for business and settled there. After independence of British/French/Portuguese colonies, many Vhora settled in Europe.
In 19 & early 20th century Vhora Muslims built magnificent European style mansions furnished with western furniture at Siddhpur, Surat & Mumbai. Old Gujarati proverb " VHORA NO MAL RODA MA JAY" means Vhora's wealth/money is expended in stones ( buildings ).

74 years ago my father & family came from Karachi to Okha port in such steamer at time of partition in 1947. My father was teacher in Sharada Mandir School of Karachi in 1942 to 1947.After partition our family returned back to Porbandar (Gujarat).

In 1947 after partition of India & Pakistan,migration of Hindu & Muslim population started on both sides.Indian govt decided to settle Sindhi Hindu refugees from Pakistan in Junagadh state as there were many properties of rich & upper middle-class Muslim who migrated to Pakistan.
Govt. decided to settle Sindhi refugees who were arriving at Veraval port from Karachi at Kutiyana, Bantva, Veraval & Junagadh.2 camps were set up with capacity of 20000 persons each at Kutiyana & Bantva.There were many properties of rich NRI Memon Muslim who migrated to Pakistan

On 2-8-1965 first foundation brick of Gujarat capital, Gandhinagar laid was of Guest House building of Gujarat Electricity Board.10500 acres agriculture land of 2382 farmers & 5000 acres government land of 12 villages were acquired to build new capital city Gandhinagar.

Diu is an island adjoining to coast of south Saurashtra.Diu word is derived from Sanskrit word 'Dweep' means island. In ancient & middle age Diu was flourished with international trade & shipping. It was famous in Europe & Asia. Up to 16th century, it was biggest port of Gujarat. Image
In 7th & 8th centuries Chinese ships had been anchoring regularly at Diu.1102 years ago in 917 AD Parsi migrated to Diu Gujarat from Iran because of Arab invasions of Iran.They lived in Diu for 19 years then went Sanjan.From Sanjan, they spread to Vansda, Navsari, Valsad, Udvada.
On 13-2-1537 & 3rd day of Ramzan Gujarat Sultan Bahadurshah died & drowned in Diu sea in a tragic scuffle with Portuguese.His dead body was never found. From 1537 AD Diu became part of Portuguese India till its liberation from Portuguese power by Indian Armed Forces in 1961 AD.

Today is International Tiger Day which is celebrated every year to raise awareness for tiger conservation.There was a large population of tigers in Gujarat up to middle age but there is no tiger in Gujarat now. It is amazing fact that there were tigers near Ahmedabad in old time. Image
Tiger hunting was a favourite entertainment game for Indian rulers since ancient time. It was a favourite sport for Sultans of Gujarat in middle age. Halol & Mahemdavad were important hunting places for Gujarat Sultans. Hunting hobby of Indian rulers decreased tiger population.
Tiger hunting was favourite sport & pastime of royals & elites in 19 & early 20th century. It was main tourist attraction of India for Europeans. In British rule,tiger hunting parties were arranged by rulers of princely states in honour of visiting British dignities & officials.

'Bhavai/Vesh' is a popular folk theatre form of Gujarat which is about 700 years old performing art. It is now on the verge of extinction. Bhavai word is derived from Sanskrit word Bhav means expression and Aai means mother (Goddess Amba). It is also known as Vesh means-'get-up'.
Around 1360 AD Siddhpur Audich Brahmin Asait Thakar was outcasted by Brahmins as he dined with lower caste to save a girl. So Asait started Bhavai-a type of folk theatre form as a profession. He is considered beginner/founder of Bhavai-folk theatre in Gujarat.He wrote many plays.
14th century Siddhapur Brahmin Asait is the ancestor of Tragala/Targhala Naiks of Bhavai-folk theatre. He wrote three types of play literature. He wrote 360 Vesh-role/get-up of Bhavai-folk drama. Many of them are still today played in Bhavai-folk theatre.

On 20th November 1572 Mughal emperor Akbar & his army arrived at Ahmedabad & camped on Sabarmati river bank.Gujarat Sultan Muzffar was in custody of Akbar.He won Gujarat without any resistance or battle.Akbar's Khutbah as emperor of Gujarat were read out in Masjids of Ahmedabad. Image
In 1572 Mughal emperor won Gujarat from Gujarat Sultan Muzffarshah 3rd. Gujarat Sultnat ended.14 Sultans of Gujarat Sultnat ruled Gujarat for 168 years (1404-1572).Among them Ahmedshah,Mahmud Begda,Muzffar & Bahadurshah were famous.Their ancestor was a Punjabi Hindu Tank Rajput.
Mughal emperor Akbar stayed on Sabarmati river bank at Ahmedabad. Gujarat Sultnat Wazir Itimadkhan with senior Amirs presented key of Ahmedabad to Akbar.Citizens of Ahmedabad welcomed Akbar & weighed him with valuables.Sorath administrator Aminkhan Ghori paid tributes to Akbar.
