good morning from unceded Darug lands☀️today on #Insiders are ABC broadcaster Pat Karvelas, 9fax columnist late of murdoch Nikki Sava, and 10 News + murdoch columnist + UWA Professor Peter van Onselen.
The interview is with Perrottet government minister Matt Keane.
this thread is not fact checked.
I block snitchtaggers. Pls google unfamiliar terms.
lol ABC headline: “the Nationals are holding a Party room meeting to hammer out the Coalition climate plan”.
opening spiel: “negotiating with the Nats” - Speers presenting from his only angle, the Liberal Party perspective. #Insiders
what’s the Morrison line, skip? The “target” set by Tony Abbott will stay the same. Morrison will go to Glasgow. The current chaos is “a win for the Nationals”. This might help Scott Morrison or might not. The critical factor - media framing - goes unmentioned. #Insiders
montage (to a Pink Floyd soundtrack, sacrilege lol) is politicians and journalists saying things about a long-standing existing Coalition policy setting: an unlegislated net zero 2050 “target”. #Insiders
the denial of anthropogenic warming from Resources Minister to Fran Kelly on RN is worth repeating. “The climate is always changing” is classic denialism coding. #Insiders
Speers introduces Keane not as a member of a thoroughly corrupted government but as a climate hero. #Insiders
#MakingNews is booster shots. Speers’ editorialising includes calling climate vandals “helping farmers”, which is straight up Coalition comms. So dangerous. #Insiders
is net zero a deal breaker? Karvelas says she has #Insiders intel that the Nationals have hardened against net zero, want nuclear, and she says this will be difficult - “for the prime minister”. She says it is “not about money”😳
a lot of McKenzie’s grandstanding is being broadcast here. Rehabilitation of “disgraced former minister” complete. Van Onselen says “the moderate Liberals are being really bolshie”. He links this to their work trusted but not to the Voices movement. #Insiders
Speers asks if Joyce has to go along with a slender party room majority of 11/21. Van Onselen says it could be - recall we are discussing the future of humanity - “awkward” - for Barnaby fucking Joyce. #Insiders
clip of Morrison chest thumping about cabinet decision making authority. “Technically” cabinet could make a decision without the Nationals party room, says Speers, which just means he can if he has the guts. #Insiders
sure, if he wants to blow up the Coalition, says Sava. There will be ministerial resignations all in view of the election, she says. As tho the Coalitions re-election prospects are what matters here says me. #Insiders
to be fair to Morrison he is in a wicked position, says Karvelas, as tho anything other than the Morrison/Liberal Party/Coalition perspective is ever given prominent coverage. But what does it mean, says Speers. #Insiders
we are still discussing the pressing issue of Coalition re-election prospects in Coalition-held seats without any mention of the Voices movement. Labor, tho. #Insiders
clip of Bowen outlining Coalition failures on climate mitigation. A small target strategy from Labor would be “clever politics” says van Onselen? I think? Karvelas says Labor can not re-run the last election by sending different messages in the north and the south #Insiders
still on “problems” for Labor, for Anthony Albanese, and what Labor needs to do. This is done using the Coalition mantra of calling regional handouts “jobs”. Sava says she “has the feeling” Labor will not be timid on net zero. #Insiders
the “doing nothing” lie gets a run. Expansion of coal mining is not nothing. Pretending the Morrison government is doing nothing when it is actively destroying our collective future is so biased. #Insiders
grab of Morrison saying nobody knows who Matt Keane is? Or federal cabinet ministers do not? I think. Cabinet ministers know who Matt Keane is now, chuckles Speers. He bowls a few sitters for coalition politician Keane to appear Climate-responsible. #Insiders
we have just been talking about what a difficult position the prime minister is in, says Speers. They sure have. #Insiders
weird how Speers is not asking Keane about corruption investigations into his government. We spent considerable time on branch stacking in Victoria last week. But this interview is about the Liberal Party pitch to coal industry worker voters. #Insiders
three consecutive questions inviting Keene to use the public broadcaster for pitching his wares to regional voters in areas that rely heavily on the coal industry. #Insiders
is the $600 million Kurri Kurri gas plant announcement good? If the feds want to spend (he means announce) 600 million taxpayer dollars in Kurri Kurri they can knock themselves out says Keane. #Insiders
nuclear? It doesn’t stack up, says Keane. People talking about nuclear to solve our current needs are chasing a unicorn, says Keane, but he is not going to rule it out for the future, he says. Jobs, he says. #Insiders
housing? Why are housing prices skyrocketing in the pandemic? Keane says low interest rates. Claims he wants to make the Australian dream of home ownership affordable without “destroying” the value of existing property. #Insiders
how big do you want NSW to be? Big enough. #Insiders
and finally the GST, says Speers. This is so blatant. Not one word about former Premier Baird testifying before the ICAC on former premier Berejiklian. Or deputy NSW Liberal leader Ayers at the ICAC. Or the fact current Premier Perrottet signed off on the Wagga handout. #Insiders
there has to be a more ambitious 2030 target taken to Glasgow by the prime minister, says Sava. Will he gave the ticker to take that higher target to Glasgow? National Party ministers might resign. If he does not do it he will not be taken seriously in Glasgow. #Insiders
and if he does not take a higher 2030 target he is weakened here, says Sava, again with no mention of the Voices movement. He is wedged, she says. Speers offers up NSW Liberal Party jobs comms, again. #Insiders
some babble from van Onselen about who is a climate mitigation policy denier-moderate-supporter in the Liberal and National parties. #Insiders
this is a politics show, says Karvelas. We discuss the politics here. But there is also an existential threat. How political leadership globally and nationally has failed to address and in fact has rapidly accelerated the existential threat is not quite reconciled. #Insiders
much more to cover, says Speers to this very moderate fact check from Karvelas. On corruption in the NSW government? Lmao no. On re-opening. Off we go to #TheCurve. #Insiders
this week #TheCurve has gone global. Timely reminder that UK and Europe were vaccinated MONTHS before Australians from Briggs. #Insiders
waning immunisation and booster shots and so on but let’s talk about the politics of joyous re-opening and whether it assists… the Morrison government re-election prospects. Whether coverage is dominated by happy re-opening scenes might have some impact, skip? #Insiders
voters rarely reward politicians for what they achieved yesterday, says Sava. She says whoever calls an election first will cop it most and that looks like the federal election. #Insiders
Speers says to van Onselen that Frydenberg was “very clear” about abolishing the covid disaster payment, which has already been withdrawn by stealth - by the Commonwealth hotspot de-designation process, but neither Speers nor van Onselen are across this. #Insiders
in response, van Onselen regurgitates a bunch of federal election timing speculation. Karvelas says if our cities are deserted the Morrison government could be “punished” by voters. I think she means voters might not vote for the local Coalition candidate. #Insiders
moving on to the Coalition protection of Porter in the parliament, Sava says they trashed parliamentary process. They could have ticked and flicked, she says. So what if there is a by-election in Pearce, says Sava. You think? asks Speers. #Insiders
that one time #Insiders declared van Onselen is a close friend and openly, publicly defends Christian Porter - hedged by Annabel Crabb “disclosing” she met, decades ago, the women allegedly raped by Porter - is not repeated. Peter freely gives his opinion on his mate. #Insiders
almost as tho the degree to which the Coalition trashed parliamentary process this week is a kind of macro reflection of the degree to which Speers and other Liberal Party supporters in the CPG have trashed #Insiders when you think about it.
#TalkingPictures is up. Ellinghausen is a back to you David man.
#FinalObservations 1 is Sava saying there is a Coalition deal to not run Nationals in the seats of Eden Monaro and Gilmore to give the Liberals a better chance of winning the seats - and the Coalition a better chance of re-election. #Insiders
#FinalObservations 2 is van onselen citing polling in marginal seats held by the Coalition and what the Coalition will do to win those seats and Speers chuckling that yes it will be tough - for the Coalition. #Insiders
#FinalObservations 3 is Karvelas saying the sidelining of Grace Tame from Coalition consultation on its [latest noise to appear it is doing something] child abuse prevention strategy is “extraordinary”. It is not. #Insiders
the outtake is footage of koalas getting chlamydia vaccinations. #Insiders
this has been another edition of watching #Insiders so you don’t have to👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼
🔮Morrison takes an unlegislated target to Glasgow. Coalition climate policy remains coal expansion. Coalition politicians use public money to buy votes for their candidates. Not news. This is business as usual.
oh and entire press gallery obediently and uncritically amplify and legitimise this latest federal Coalition election campaign strategy. Also not new.
he can take a bowl of word salad to Scotland with or without the Nationals. Giving public money to client donors and local vested interests is not climate mitigation.
good morning from unceded Darug lands☀️today on #Insiders are Guardian politics corro Sarah Martin, murdoch politics editor James Campbell and 9fax economics corro Shane Wright. The interview is with Liberal Party backbencher Katy Allen.
opening spiel is “crunch time for the Nationals” who are being increasingly referred to as “the junior Coalition partner” these days. #Insiders
what is the Morrison perspective, skip? Well, he “needs” the Nationals to lock in behind him for when he goes to Glasgow. There is no evidence for this claim. Federal Liberal Party climate policy wreckers have been backed by media and re/elected for decades. #Insiders
good morning from unceded lands of the sovereign Darug people☀️today on #Insiders are murdoch politics editor Sam Maiden, ABC NSW politics corro Ashleigh Rapier, 9fax politics corro Jaqueline Maley and ABC politics editor Andrew Probyn. The interview is with Ed Husic.
opening spiel: “Gladys Berejiklian gone under a lots of corruption”. What’s the Morrison perspective, skip? Morrison loses a crucial ally. Morrison wanted clear air for his border announcement. Morrison Morrison Morrison #Insiders
it is all to do to her former boyfriend - actual editorialising from Speers this morning. It is all to do with a corruption investigation, David. #Insiders
and is there ANYTHING with less news value than the opinion of retired Liberal Party politicians. We know exactly what they are going to say. This never-ending parade of washed up partisans who joined a disgusting organisation to make the world a worse place.
I mean they are experts in what exactly? Lying about how factional hatreds play out? So fucking what? Most are losers who failed the people while in government and failed in their own ambition. And this parade of partisan legacy promotion is foisted on us constantly.
oh and actual current elected officials as well as political journalists deliberately spreading misinformation about how the system works. She took herself out, as only she - between elections - can. It is like they do not know why Porter is still in the parliament.
finally the work of David Shoebridge gets a look in. Now that we have spent hours and hours broadcasting the Liberal Party perspective of a Liberal Party leader resigning due to being under investigation for multiple counts of dishonesty and corruption.
it’s not just this one grant, says Shoebridge. There have been hundreds and hundreds of millions of public dollars handed out for party political gain.
should ICAC have waited due to covid? asks glover for the eleventeenth time. He is very enarmoured of this claim made by a politician about the independent commission against corruption that is investigating her for corruption.
comms hack: when any Morrison government rep says “we will continue to”, they are lying and covering up repeated and predictable corruption and failures.
this morning it was a rushed statement while Kelly was interviewing Ben Gauntlet on RN about evidence-based findings that the government has not prioritised vaccinating disabled people, saying “we will continue to prioritise” vaccinating disabled people, a lie.
it is part of the gaslighting manipulation of timeframes that bookend all their lies - the past happened differently to what evidence shows, the present is somehow not a shitshow, while campaigning on future outcomes which are never realised.
