In my latest study, I have examined Turkish private Co. 10yr concessions in Somalia, and uncovered the following:
1- Favori LLC increased its rev. share from 55% to 96%.
2-While Albayrak has increased its rev. share from 45% to 84%.
Let me explain how it happened #Thread #TABEF
in 2014 Auditor-General Nur Fahar wanted to audit Favori LLC and Albayrak concessions but was blocked by both companies. In 2015 @SahraCabdi with @voasomali interviewed him; where he raised his concerns and lack of corporation from Favori LLC & Albayrak.
voasomali.com/a/3123023.html
Lo and behold, Nur Farah's decries prompted the parliament to form Somalia’s Financial Government Committee (FGC) to review all public procurement and concessions: published a detailed report with recommendations. However, the FGC failed to audit the revenue share.
In 2017, the first thing PM Khaire @HassanAKhaire
did was illegally firing Nur Farah to cover up corruption. The auditor general protested the unlawful sacking which violates Article 114 of Somalia's constitution; only the parliament could do so.
hiiraan.com/news4/2017/may…
You have to wonder, why Albayrak is hiding its revenue, so I made some digging & found out that before Albayrak took over port management in 2014, the port rev was $6M/month reported @newhumanitarian & ultimately has increased to $10M/month per Prof Breden @cannon_brendon
it turns out based on the UN monitoring report, Albayrak has artificially inflated its expenses with dubious claims & decided to reduce monthly rev. payment to $1M from $10M. This reduced Somalia Gov rev. share from 55% to 16% while increasing the company’s from 45% to 84%.
Something similar happened in Guinea when Alpha Condé, the now-deposed president and a friend of Erdoğan, awarded Albayrak a 25-year lease for the port of Conakry and 82% of duties in what was widely perceived to be a sweetheart deal.
nordicmonitor.com/2019/09/albayr…
According to a 2016 U.N. report, Favori LLC has inflated its expenses to maximize its profits, reporting revenue of $1.16M/month & expenses of more than $500K compared to revenue of an estimated $8M to $10M/month before it took over management of the airport.
Doing so, Favori LLC has increased its revenue share from 55% to 94% and reduced the Somalia government share of the revenue from 45% to just 6%. This does not include even Decal Hotel revenue and other illegal revenues that were not part of revenue sharing per 15 yr concession.
The red circle area was supposed to be a parking lot for airport customers, but Favor LLC illegally built a hotel & shopping mall. It's not clear if the revenue generated from the Decale Hotel, which is a Somalia gov asset, is supplemental rev for Favori LLC.
Favori LLC violated its contractual obligations by collecting illegal fees that should have been passed on to the Somali Civil Aviation & Meteorology Authority. The illegal fees include landing, air navigation, parking, passenger safety, freight, & fuel.
Favori has also failed to reconstruct the airport’s main runway & neglected airport maintenance& safety...Issues that should have been addressed in 2013 are only now being discussed. Due to operation safety issues, Mogdisshu Airport could be closed.
This study is to bring awareness about the predatory practice of the Turkish gov and hope the public and politicians engage in open and honest discussions on Turkey's role in Somalia. The End.

Challenges ahead & solutions in the post #ICJ ruling
1-Kenya withdrew from ICJ, meaning it can sue any oil drilling co. within the formerly disputed zone
2-Somalia doesn't own d drilling rights, Total does.
3- Also owns some of the Kenya oil blocks bought by Qatar & Eni #Thread
Kenya has already started exploring some of the oil blocks located formerly disputed areas “Kenya rejected the accusation that ownership of the blocks was contested and said there was no need to hold up exploration”
reuters.com/article/kenya-…
Since Qatar owns a 25% share of Kenya oil blocks, it has already got its ducks in the row by inviting Somalia PM @MohamedHRoble to Qatar. It’s alleged that he has received an undisclosed petro $ to delay the election and make deal with Qatar to become Somalia's Oil trusteeship.

@SomalilandChro1 recent interview with former US Amb to Somalia Stephen Swartz provided good examples that Somaliland gov could follow to get recognition, and @musebihi or Somaliland citizens should really pursue #Thread
somalilandchronicle.com/2021/09/16/exc…
The amb used Kosovo as an example; as I have he talked about this option many times where Kosovo took Yugoslavia to court and won. Somaliland case has a historical background that backs up for its independence combined with its grievance as Kosovo was.
Kosovo ICJ “the declaration of independence of Kosovo adopted on 17 February 2008 did not violate international laws" Somaliland independence declaration does not violate international law as it was an independent in 1960 followed by the illegal union.

#thread In 2019, Turkey's spy agency MIT sent $600k to al-Shabab; in order to cover up the story, the Turkish gov asked a judge to @nordicmonitor who reported the story, and Somalia online outlets like Hiiraan online and Awdalpress who have published the Nordic story.
Keep in mind Erdogen recently provided $30M to Somalia gov in midst of election rigging and not to mention Turkey gov was aiding back in April the @M_Farmaajo coup that was foiled by the pro-democracy military-
On May 6th Qatar arrested its finance minister and Erdogan fired Turkey's central bank governor on May 26th, not sure if these events are connected to the Alshabaab financing that scooped Qatar-Turkey Axis or could be avoiding US gov sanctions who threatened Somalia spoilers.

#Thread @MohamedHRoble was able to travel to Kenya because of pro-democracy military who temporary blocked temporary last night Villa Somalia when @M_Farmaajo ordered the PM to stay. The irony of this is that it was the PM who pushed out the pro-democracy military from Mogadishu
As I tweeted 3days ago, the pro-democracy militarily entered Mogadishu last week preparing to defend the PM incase Famaajo blocks him to visit Kenya and open direct flights and the commercial bilateral trade between two countries.
Why Farmaajo blocked PM to visit Kenya? Farmaajo only lifeline he has now is the Ethiopian Khat ( drug) revenue ( $500k/day) monopoly run by his brother. The new deal between Uhuru & PM Roble will diminish Farmaajo revenue & disrupt his election rigging scheme for re-election.

#Thread Ethiopia has restructured Addis-Djibouti Railwaiway (ADR) line loan of $4.5B for another 30yrs; mainly for two reasons:
1- Abiy gov insisted on electrifying the railway using clean energy from hydropower dams vs fossil fuel; increased d project cost & caused delays
2-The railway link was designed to reduce travel time from 3 days to 12 hrs & running 3 freight/day, because of repeated power outages due to climate change impacts neither travel time was reduced & revenues are realized to date: accumulating Ethiopia's $1B annual debt services.
Worse Ethiopian gov is pursuing debt financing other railway projects specially Awash-Kombombla-Hara Gebeya/ Weldiya Railway (AKH) increasing its GDP to debt ratio above 55%; impacting its credit rating, forcing new lenders to increase the interest rates for future projects.
