no we didn’t. Scott Morrison announced an unlegislated target and asked assembled journalists to tell voters he has a plan. The media, collectively, complied. This entire exercise is election campaign comms and its sole purpose has already been achieved. 
Morrison will now tick “announce target” off his to-do list and move on, irregardless of a few serious climate policy journalists crying into their cups. That’s politics mate, he will say. All politics is local. He does not care about the human cost, not yours, not ours.

Scott Morrison has utter contempt for press gallery journalists who repeatedly held out for him, claiming he would - in the face of overwhelming evidence - act in the public interest. He does not give a flying fuck about them, only their useful servitude to his political career.
“difficult” omfg there was no screeching hysteria from media and the opposition like Gillard copped for legislating climate policy that actually worked. The only “difficulty” for Morrison re-announcing an existing target is Coalition politicians.
