[THREAD] 1. How will voting stations prepare for Election Day?
Each station will have: 1. Hand sanitisers 2. Bins to dispose of cotton-buts used for inking/PPE 3. Posters clarifying procedures 4. Canisters with disinfectant voting stations before opening and after closing
2. All voting materials used at voting stations will be sanitised, including pens. It's preferred for voters to bring their own pens (to reduce the #COVID infection risk), but pens will also be provided and sanitised before and after each person using them.
3. What will happen with special votes (this will happen on Sat and Sun)? Officials will follow preplanned routes to people's homes and tick special voters off a list as they have cast their vote.
4. How will election officials implement protective #COVID measures when they arrive at people's homes for them to cast their special votes? 1. They will sanitise their hands before entering someone's house 2. They will maintain social distancing
5. At voting stations there will be: 1. Social distancing 2. All voters have to wear masks and have to sanitise their hands with the sanitisers provided before entering a voting station 3. All voting officials will be provided with masks
6. What will happen at counting stations? 1. There will be social distancing (officials will check that you adhere) 2. You won't be able to count votes if you don't wear a mask and sanitise your hands with free sanitisers provided before entering the counting station.

[Thread] 1. What's happening with #COVID vaccine boosters in SA?
Nicholas Crisp, @heatlhza: 1. SA = not yet vaccinated enough people to focus on boosters for large groups of people 2. HCWs = special group as they get exposed to #COVIVD19 more so their infection risk = higher
2. Crisp: 1. Some #HealthWorkers vaccinated in the #Sisonke trial were vaccinated 8 months ago, so they may need booster shots 2. They will receive 2nd #JnJ doses in a study starting in Nov
3. What about people with weak immune systems who may need boosters?
Crisp:
The MAC has advised that people with a specific set of immunocompromised conditions get a 3rd #Pfizer/2nd #JnJ dose 28 days after they were fully vaccinated. This is not a booster, but an extra dose.
#JoePhaahla: Update on #COVID19SA
[THREAD]
- Active #COVID19 cases = 18 568 (a month ago = 46 577 active cases), this is a 22% reduction
- #COVID hospital admissions = 3959 yesterday (month ago: 6 173),
- New cases (last 7 days) = 22% reduction
2. #JoePhaahla:
- #COVID19 fatality rate: 18% reduced over last 7 days
- + rate (% of tests coming out +): 1.7% + rate average over last 7 days (Northern Cape = higher: 5-7%, but still lower than previously)
3. #JoePhaahla:
- Just because #COVID19SA rates are down, doesn't mean we shouldn't practice social distancing
- Countries such as Russia are going back into serious lockdown measures
- We also need to get as many people as possible to go for vaccinations before Dec
JUST IN, [Thread]: INCENTIVES for people to get vaccinated: 1. #JoePhaahla:
- Nandos has donated 1000 vouchers of R500 each that will be awarded to the 15 best performing vaccination teams in each province
- Each member of a winning team will receive a voucher
2. Uber will provide R100 vouchers to healthcare workers to get to pop-up vaccination sites to vaccinate people against #COVID on election day (Nov 1)
3. 26 million people of 60+ who go for vaccinations @ #COVID19 in Nov, will receive a R100 grocery voucher after their vaccination. The voucher will be sms'd 2 the cell phone nr they registered with on the #EVDS. People can redeem the vouchers at shops like Shoprite and Checkers.
2. Why don’t teens (12-17) need their parents’ permission to get vaccinated @ #COVID19?
The Children’s Act says kids of 12+ can consent to medical treatment if they’re of sufficient maturity + have the mental capacity to understand the benefits/risks: bit.ly/3bar7Dm
3. Was the regulation in the Children’s Act that allows for children of 12+ to consent to their own medical treatment created especially for #COVID19 jabs?
NO. That regulation has been there since the Act was proclaimed in 2005.
