1/ Thread: For years, we've been exposing Israeli violations of Palestinian children's rights at the international level. That's why the Israeli government decided to criminalize our work.

Let's start in 2014. #StandWithThe6
2/ On Nakba Day in 2014, Israeli forces shot and killed 16-year-old Mohammad Abu Daher and 17-year-old Nadeem Nawara. We shared our documentation with @ForensicArchi and exposed that Israeli forces knowingly used live ammunition to kill the two boys. forensic-architecture.org/investigation/…
3/ In the summer of 2014, Israeli forces launched a 50-day military assault on Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least 535 Palestinian children. Our detailed report documented killings, injuries, and other rights violations of Palestinian children. dci-palestine.org/operation_prot…
4/ Now, we're representing Palestinian child victims at the International Criminal Court, submitting evidence on their behalf for investigations into Israeli war crimes. dci-palestine.org/dcip_urges_icc…
5/ We have also submitted evidence to UN investigators detailing war crimes committed by Israeli forces during Operation Cast Lead (2008-9), 2014’s Operation Protective Edge, and the 2018 March of Return Protests. dci-palestine.org/dcip_submits_e…
6/ In 2018, we filed a petition to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention on behalf of Laith, 17, who was being held by Israeli authorities in administrative detention w/o charge. The WG said Laith's treatment was "wholly unacceptable." dci-palestine.org/israel_s_army_…
7/ This year, we've advocated for several more Palestinian children in administrative detention, including 17-year-old Amal Nakhleh, who is being held without charge while suffering from a rare autoimmune disease—during a pandemic. dci-palestine.org/israeli_milita…
8/ In early 2020, @baparkr was invited by Belgium to speak to the UN Security Council about Palestinian children's rights. Then his invitation was revoked because Belgium caved to intense Israeli government pressure. 972mag.com/palestinian-ch…
9/ In the US, DCIP has advised and provided documentation for several bills in Congress, most recently H.R. 2590, which would prohibit Israeli authorities from using US funds to demolish houses, detain Palestinian children, and further annex the West Bank. nwttac.dci-palestine.org/resources_on_h…
10/ In June, as President Biden rushed to send Israel more weapons after assaulting Gaza for 11 days, we called for weapons sales to halt immediately and supported joint resolutions of disapproval from both @RepAOC and @SenSanders. dci-palestine.org/president_bide…
11/ The weapons sale was after Operation Guardian of the Walls, Israel's 11-day military assault on the Gaza Strip which killed dozens of Palestinian children. We posted daily updates during the siege, documenting child deaths and the assault's impact. dci-palestine.org/palestinian_fa…
12/ DCIP co-leads the @nwttac campaign, advocating to end Israeli military detention of Palestinian children. In Dec. 2020, we published a report on how solitary confinement is used for interrogation purposes on children, which often amounts to torture. dci-palestine.org/israels_isolat…
13/ We share the stories of many Palestinian children ensnared in the Israeli military detention system. Obaida, the subject of a short film we produced who had been detained twice, captured the world's heart with his clear call for liberation.
14/ After the film was produced, Obaida was detained a third time without charge. In May 2021, Israeli forces shot and killed him at a demonstration, just weeks before his 18th birthday. dci-palestine.org/israeli_forces…
15/ Whenever a Palestinian child is killed, our field researchers are among the first on the scene. They're trained to objectively determine what happened and respectfully work with the child's family to get accurate information. dci-palestine.org/israeli_forces…
16/ Long after the cameras leave, DCIP's team continues to document violations against Palestinian children through long-form reporting. For example: Last year, Israeli forces detained at least 8 children in Yabad during a weeks-long military campaign. dci-palestine.org/israeli_forces…
17/ In April, we documented stories from Palestinian children living in a Bedouin village that had been demolished by Israeli authorities at least 7 times since 2014. Their families were repeatedly targeted. dci-palestine.org/israeli_author…
18/ The Israeli government criminalized our work in hopes of distracting us so we won't have time to continue documenting and exposing human rights violations against Palestinian children. That's not going to happen. END

We're humbled and grateful for all the statements of solidarity and support from individuals, government officials, trade unions, civil society organizations, academics, and others over the last few days. We won't stop fighting for Palestinian children's rights. #StandWithThe6
.@amnesty and @hrw called the Israeli government's decision a "brazen attack on human rights." #StandWithThe6 amnesty.org/en/latest/news…
The @972mag editorial board quickly condemned the decision, saying this attack is "nothing less than an authoritarian move aimed at crushing Palestinians’ ability to resist their oppression." #StandWithThe6 972mag.com/editorial-pale…

Over the last few days, we've welcomed about a thousand new Twitter followers—hello! Here's a little bit about what we do to promote and protect Palestinian children's rights. #StandWithThe6 (thread)
DCIP is the only local, independent human rights organization focused solely on the rights of Palestinian children. We were founded in 1991 and are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year.
We're a member of the global @DCIsecretariat movement, which has dozens of local chapters all over the world. All member organizations commit to promoting and protecting children's rights in accordance with international law.

(1/11) Today, the Israeli Ministry of Defense issued a military order declaring @DCIPalestine and five other Palestinian human rights organizations to be "terrorist organizations."

Thread: Israeli forces killed 16-year-old Palestinian teenager Said Yousef Mohammad Odeh on May 5, 2021. Now, his family, friends, and community are reflecting on Said's life.

His mother asks, "What did he do to justify his killing? He was just 16 years old."
Said's cousin, Munther, was shot in the back by Israeli soldiers while trying to carry Said to safety.

"We were standing here, and suddenly, the army came out from under the olive trees."
Israeli forces blocked paramedics from accessing Said after he was shot. The paramedic who finally reached him, Faiz, was surprised to see the person lying on the ground was his nephew, Said.

BREAKING: Israeli forces raided our main office in Al-Bireh today around 5 a.m., confiscating computers, laptops, and files concerning our Palestinian child detainee clients in the Israeli military courts. We were not informed of the reason for the raid.
This is the latest act by Israeli authorities to increasingly push forward a campaign to delegitimize and criminalize Palestinian civil society and human rights organizations like @DCIPalestine.
We carry out our work in a situation of armed conflict where perpetrators of war crimes and crimes
against humanity enjoy systemic impunity and Israeli forces refuse to end serious breaches
of international law or hold perpetrators accountable.
