What are the changes between 1979 and now?

- 90 papers in 1979
- 170k papers in 2020

And a much much diverse mix of fields.
Changes in trends in terms of which countries are publishing "climate" research.

For example; India is a key publisher in affordable and clean energy.
Key trends in climate change research now:

- Highest concentration of focus from measuring to impacts to action
- More disciplines engaging
- No one way of identifying research, which reflects the diversity of the work
- Increase in OA
.@BenFranta now giving tips on high impact research.

#GetCleanThinking
Tip 1 - Track the whole problem, not just one disciplinary perspective

#GetCleanThinking
Tip 2 - Have a targeted focus.

What’s the most important gap you’re able & motivated to address?

#GetCleanThinking
Tip 3 - Amplify your work

Communicate your work repeatedly & in many forms.

#GetCleanThinking
Great formats for your work are:

- Op-eds
- Podcasts
- TED Talks

and even web comics!

You can even keep it simple but the communication aspect is really important.

#GetCleanThinking #ClimateChange
Publishing in a peer reviewed journal is important from a scientific perspective but need to remember that most of the general public don't read journals.

We need to communicate with the public too and in a way that they can understand.

.@schipper_lisa from @ClimDevJournal now giving feedback on how to get your work published.

🔑Key tips when publishing:

🌎Consider the degree to which you might be taking or aligning with a specific political perspective

We are now joined by Joycelyn Longdon from @climateincolour who will talk about making climate conversations more accessible and diverse.

#ClimateChange #AcademicChatter
What is environmental injustice?

"The disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on vulnerable communities."

This is something that still persists now.

#COP26 #ClimateChange
Longdon highlights the importance of including communities in research and taking in to account issues of diversity.

#GetCleanThinking
.@climateincolour works to unlock information which can be accessed and understood by the public.

Goal is to center the voices of those marginalized and move to the forefront of the discussion.

#ClimateChange #GetCleanThinking #AcademicChatter
"Making impact with climate research means shifting paradigms and allowing new structures to emerge"

#AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter #GetCleanThinking
Moving on to the questions segment of the event:

"What is the one thing you have done which has had the most impact in getting your research noticed?"
.@BenFranta "you can have so much more impact by mobilizing and empowering others than on your own"
.@schipper_lisa sharing work, asking for feedback
.@climateincolour "social media and design has really helped communicate what I have been doing...and activism, being involved in different communities".

Lists Instagram as a channel which has been great to get people involved and springboard certain topics.
Thanks to everyone who has participated today, especially our amazing speakers @BenFranta, @schipper_lisa of @ClimDevJournal, @climateincolour & @LifeEarthEnvLSK.
