To provide some background for those outside of Oklahoma- Governor Stitt has spoken openly about his faith and how important it is to him.
His father, Rev. John Stitt, is a longtime pastor.
Rev. Stitt has participated in events including National Day of Prayer at OK Capitol.
Julius Jones’ case has received national and international attention.
Today the European Union in the US shared they sent a letter to Stitt asking him to grant Julius clemency. #Oklahoma#deathpenalty

The family of Paul Howell is also waiting on a decision.
They’ve spoken publicly about how they want Governor Stitt to reject the Pardon and Parole Board’s recommendation so that Julius will be executed Thursday.
Paul’s daughters were in car when he was shot/killed in 1999.
The Howell family also created a website called Justice for Paul Howell. They firmly believe Julius Jones killed Paul. Jones has always maintained his innocence.

In an interview today with @rtmradio Oklahoma Attorney General John O’Connor seems to call into question the entire role of the Pardon and Parole Board and if they can do their job due to time constraints.
Majority of PPB was appointed by Governor Stitt.
Background-Attorney General O’Connor had tried to remove 2 members of Pardon & Parole Board.
Both were appointed by Governor Stitt.
One said AG’s actions were “for the sole purpose of delaying and disrupting Julius Jones' clemency hearing.”

In the end, the 2 members were NOT removed & both participated in Julius Jones’ clemency hearing.

Update- Defense attorney Kevin Gough is once again trying to argue to keep more “black pastors” out of the courtroom gallery and from sitting with Ahmaud’s parents.
The state has rested, defense starts tomorrow.
In his arguments Gough says he’s checked into website (MORE)
And Gough says a large rally of pastors planned outside the courthouse Thursday is not in response to anything that happened in the courtroom.
To be clear, last week Gough said “we don’t want any black pastors coming in here.”
