The average American spends 5.4 hours a day on their phone.

Life is passing by for the permanently distracted.

Here’re 6 ways you can win back control of your attention today 🧵
Why should you care?

The heights of your achievements are tied to the depth of your focus.

You need to make sure nothing has uninterrupted access to your greatest asset:

Your mind👇
Go Grey

Remove visual stimulation, and you’re left with information.

You realise how much is trash. Mindless scrolling disappears.

Suddenly, the beauty of the real world seems a better source for your attention.

Google 'Greyscale'

And see how different your phone is.
Pavlov’s iPhone

That pull you feel when your screen lights up?

That’s addiction.

A dopamine hit associated to stimulus.

How about this:

You decide when you look at your phone.

No notifications.

It will feel strange,

But I guarantee you’ll find peace as a result.
Screw the System

Beware businesses that profit from your distraction.

Our minds are easy to manipulate, and they have every resource to do so.

Take note from James Clear:

Design your environment to encourage success.

Remove the news and all social media from your phone.
Stop Upgrading

The biggest trick they play is persuading you that you need a new phone.

Honestly,

Who the fuck needs 3 camera lenses?

There’s reduced marginal utility each year. So they invest more in ads & endorsements.

You're not buying a phone. You're being sold status.
Protect Your Time

Phones are great.

But so is life without.

If you set rules where you don’t go on them, you get the best of both worlds.

The 1st hour of your morning. Deep work sessions. Time with family.

Be more present, and use your phone as a reward.
Pull the Plug

Sometimes, you gotta go bigger.

Hit the big red button.

Remember the Nokia 3310?

Go buy one.

Give your smartphone to a loved one for a while.

Tell your friends you’re not on WhatsApp.

And then waste all your time on Snake instead.

Why I quit my $150k Job as a Cosmetic Dentist to Become a Writer

=THREAD=
My hands shook as I walked into my boss’s office.

In 24 hours, I would be starting a new role at a great clinic.

I was 29 years old.

And about to quit my career.
My boss was disappointed.

My friends were shocked.

My family concerned.

Dentistry isn’t a career you walk away from.

(Well, according to them)...

But here’s why I did:

In New York City, 1964, a woman was raped and murdered in front of 38 witnesses.

Not one of them called the police.

A thread on the dangers of our psychological biases 👇 Image
After her night shift at a bar, Kitty Genovese was followed home by Winston Moseley.

100m from safety, he stabbed her with a hunting knife.

One witness saw the struggle and shouted:

"Let that girl alone."

Moseley fled.

But not for long.
Genovese tried to crawl to safety,

But the door was locked.

30 minutes later, Moseley returned.

His face covered by a hat.

He stabbed her again.

Raped her.

Stole $49.

And left her for dead.

Your level of success is determined by the quality of your thoughts.

Here’re my 7 favourite ideas on building a strong mindset from James Clear 👇🧵
Most people spend their lives growing on poor foundations.

But if you want to do something truly great,

The journey begins in your mind.

These attitudes will help.
“Aim to be great in 10 years.”

Society has normalised immediate gratification.

Long-term thinking is rare.

Here’s the truth:

There’s little you can’t accomplish with an increased time frame.

Compounding is powerful.

So, set a 10-year plan.

Then take it a day at a time.

Want to become great at copywriting, 10x faster?

You need to try this👇🧵
This is a tactic A-list copywriters swear by.

But many people question if it works.

The technique?

Handwriting sales pages.

And I'll admit...

I was skeptical too.
But I gave it a go.

Success leaves clues, after all.

The target:
45 minutes per day
2 months

Here’s what I found:

1/3rd of your life is spent working.

Not enjoying it is unacceptable.

Here’re 6 Psychological Biases You Must Overcome to Pursue Your Dream Career 👇
Several months ago, I finally took the plunge and quit my job to build a business online.

It was the scariest decision I made.

And it was only possible once I removed the biases that held me back.

Here's what they are - and how you can beat them.
Sunken Cost Fallacy

We keep investing in what we've invested in before.

Even if it isn't right for us.

It hurts to admit our past was ‘wasted’.

It feels like failure.

But Warren Buffett once said, “The best thing to do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging.”

Stoicism is perfect for the ambitious.

But the best advice came from a slave.

Here’re 7 powerful ideas from Epictetus that will help you achieve success 🧵
“Small-minded people blame others. Average people blame themselves. The wise see all blame as foolishness.”

Blame focuses on the bad:
• It solves nothing
• It makes you bitter
• It ruins relationships

Instead:

Use your energy to change the future, not resent the past.
“It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.”

The ego hates looking stupid.

And so we fail to learn.

But the more you know about life, the better you can navigate it.

So, always presume you know nothing.

And you’ll learn everything.
