Justice AM Khanwilkar presents the welcome address and says how @rashtrapatibhvn had a long association with the #SupremeCourt where he practiced as a lawyer.
Justice AM Khanwilkar thanks Secretary General of Supreme Court of India, Virendra Kumar Bhansal for organizing the event
Concept of justice can be traced back to the vedic times. Rules of reason, logic and metaphysics can be seen there. Dharma is an ancient tenet about fulfilling ones duties and responsibilities. Constitution is a perfect reflection of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam: Justice Khanwilkar
we had little exposure to the metaphysical concept in our ancient systems, since independence we have travelled to Mars but our legal system remains the same. We need to target clogging of dockets and tattered justice delivery system: Justice Khanwilkar
it is time we revisit to indigenize our rich legal system:Justice Khanwilkar
Justice Khanwilkar: I quote Dr Ambedkar, "However good a Constitution may be, if those who are implementing it are not good, it will prove to be bad. However bad a Constitution may be, if those implementing it are good, it will prove to be good.
Justice Khanwilkar: I quote "How long shall we continue to deny equality in our social and economic life? If we continue to deny it for long, we will do so only by putting our political democracy in peril." Dr BR Ambedkar
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju: i have no doubt about the high standard of legal deliberations with proper legal interventions.
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju: on first day 12,000 people registered for the online constitution day course. framers of constitution prioritised justice delivery for the citizens of people. govt is taking all steps to take justice to everyone through telelaw etc
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju: There also has been Lok Adalats. there is also considerations on a stand alone law for mediation. this govt has specially focussed on alternative dispute redressal mechanism. we have already approved 9,000 cr for judicial infrastructure
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju: govt is also committed to investing max resources for developing next gen infrastructure. Artificial intelligence may help in sustainable justice delivery and help in reducing case load.
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju: artificial intelligence can never replace human trained judges but it can help the judges with unbiased legal opinion. next the bar being an integral part of justice delivery mechanism and it can augment the link between law and social welfare
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju: i dont want to create debate between fundamental rights and duties but we must evaluate how much we have progressed as a nation. i came from a village and i could connect village to roads only after becoming MP.
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju: I did not know about fundamental rights but knew only fundamental duties. A solider at the border thinks of fundamental duties and not fundamental rights. When i come to cities i think of fundamental rights. @RijijuOffice
@RijijuOffice: I have seen that people to get their own fundamental rights attack others fundamental rights. we have to carry both fundamental rights and duties together.
CJI NV Ramana: We had Chief Justices from all High Courts participate in this two day event. even well aware informed society are unaware of constitutional provisions.
CJI NV Ramana: people need to know about scope and limitation of authority of constitutional institutions, people have this misconception that we make the law, but we faulty investigation cannot be blamed on courts
