Sorry a bit late, but here is the thread about today's BAG press conference. #CoronaInfoCH#Omicron
Regarding the first probable Omikron case in Switzerland: "Tomorrow we should know for sure whether the person concerned is actually infected with the new mutation or not", says the BAG.
The person is in isolation, the contact person in quarantine.
"It is not possible to keep the new Corona variant out of Switzerland forever."
Over 350,000 people in Switzerland have already received the booster.
Currently, around 60 people would have to go to hospital every day because of Corona.
The intensive care places in Switzerland are currently occupied to around 77 percent.
There are currently 219 patients in intensive care units due to Corona.
"There is a risk that the Omikron variant can bypass our immune system better than the other variants."
Omikron was created independently of the Alpha and Delta variants. It has around 30 mutations. Some of these mutations could cause that vaccinated and convalescent people have lower protection against this corona variant.
"In the coming days, the cantons will probably take further measures."

Expansion of the certificate requirement: The certificate requirement now also applies to indoor events with less than 30 people - even for private meetings of 11 people or more. Outside, the certificate requirement applies to 300 people (or more) whilst before it was 1000.
The number of infections is stagnating slightly. "It is noticeable that there has been massively less testing since Easter," says Mathys. The R value has recently decreased, but since it is still above 1 at 1.1, the number of infections can still be expected to rise.
Mathys shows a comparison of the reported infection numbers and the wastewater data from Zurich. "It may be that the number of cases is underestimated," says Mathys.
Swiss government has negotiated new vaccination contracts with 3 manufacturers for 17 million doses. Among others, new vaccines from Curevac, Novavax and other doses from Moderna have been added. #CoronaInfoCH
Berset: "We are experiencing a pandemic within the pandemic and that is causing difficulties." The figures are comparable to those at the beginning of Oct. – if only there wasn't the mutation, which is up to 50 percent more contagious, says Berset.
BAG Director Anne Lévy: «For a few weeks now there has been a little hope. But the tendency that show a decrease of new infections is deceptive.» The BAG is worried that the British Covid variant could lead to a trend reversal.
Vaccine:
«The vaccination campaign has started successfully» says Lévy. She refers to the 3.64% of the CH population who has already been vaccinated. «The vaccination of the first risk group (75+) continues. The cantons show solidarity with one another and help one another.»

Very interesting article on «Long Covid» (milder cases with long term effects) and it's impact on public health and economy.
According to the British office for Statistics, every 10th case leads to long term symptoms. #CoronaInfoCH#LongCovid
