@HengartnerMP Well, you have already started practicing manipulation, deception, deprivation of options & domination @HengartnerMP
By making statement your intent is to "help people with mental health problems"
Convention on Rights of Persons with disabilities is new nondiscrimination treaty
@HengartnerMP So I understand, people don't yet realise their unconscious domination, manipulation, deception, deprivation of options.
They may actually believe there is such a thing as inferior people to them, people whose mentality needs "help" becoming as their own, purportedly superior one
@HengartnerMP That's common, in fact it's the norm, throughout the history of post colonial western social development: the prior social development was on basis of an assumed "natural order" of inferiority and superiority, where the inferior obey the superior, and the superior rise in status
@HengartnerMP So all the recent developments, like non discrimination, equal opportunity, protected attributes, have arisen precisely as one group oppressed as inferior after another has risen up to protect themselves against the entrenched unconscious Prejudice
@HengartnerMP Race, nationality, religion, gender, sexuality, disability
The development always proceeds roughly the same way: the perceived or actual characteristic was promoted to be inferior, righhtless, irrational, dangerous, etc, subject to dominion, or "protection" of the "superior"
@HengartnerMP CRPD was negotiated because even according to black letter of law, perceived or actual disability is still treated as inferior, w inferior rights.
Right to freedom of thought & belief is an important right, traditionally deprived from people who th perceived or actual disability
@HengartnerMP What is disability? According to CRPD preamble, disability is deliberately undefined, an evolving construct. CRPD exists to implement the rights based model of disability. This evolved from a history. The way default society views disability is called the "medical model"
@HengartnerMP The medical model of disability views those who face differntially unfavourable barriers in their ability to get by based in some perceived or actual personal characteristic as being inferior in mind and body.
Aims to drive that Inferiority out
"Mental health" is such an ideology
@HengartnerMP The disability community, reacted by creating the social model of disability. No characteristics are inherently inferior or superior
Some are just arbitrarily privileged and accommodated, others prejudicially treated, outcast, excluded
@HengartnerMP Social model of disability Pierces the ego of the so called abled
Pointing out that just like the white, they have been arbitrarily privileged, they are not superior
Eg; why would you assume your mentality is healthy?
It seems to me you are a white knight who wants to infantilise
@HengartnerMP I could be mean, I could be wrong, but nothing you learn in your psychotherapy training will make any claims of inferiority levelled at others mentality less flawed and self serving that any I level at yours, it is all bullshit, based on claims of inferor or superior mentality
@HengartnerMP So the rights based model of disability builds on the social model. Some people with some Disabilities pointed out they wanted recognition that even if society wasn't made up of narcissists who thought they had superior abilities, even if all abilities & characteristics were
@HengartnerMP accomodated they would still face some disadvantages inherent to theirs
So, disability is deliberately undefined, instead there is a set of inalienable, nonderogable, individual rights: everyone gets to decide for themselves, how they look at life, and their own disability
@HengartnerMP The rights include the right to full inclusion and participation in society and support to achieve it, of wanted, according to will & preferences, with no undue influence or pressure including any sign of manipulation, domination, deception, deprivation of options
@HengartnerMP Reification is a kind of subtle but simple manipulation
Make up a construct, but don't explain it is a construct or anything about it (like I've just tried to explain with the construct "disability")
Don't let person know of their individual rights to freedom of thought & belief
@HengartnerMP To choose, or not, any philosophy or religion they desire
Don't let them know of their right to full inclusion & participation with "will and preferences" support to achieve it of desired
Just say the name of the construction, and make it seem "real" only way to look at life
@HengartnerMP It works by allusion, old regime social norms are to make people feel that of they are being disadvantaged, there's something wrong with them, if someone else is being advantaged, they are superior, healthier, better, medical model of disability
@HengartnerMP Old regime social norms are for "best interests" the disadvantaged person is inferior, they don't know what's good for them, need others who are experts on them to determine their "best interests"
So a person doesn't need to do much to invoke or benefit from this manipulation
@HengartnerMP Because it's alluding to an already established manipulation, domination, deception, deprivation of options embedded in the old status & regime
To do the right thing, one has to render the implicit, explicit, and insodoing, lose their status
@HengartnerMP So, they can't say "help people with mental health issues" that's claiming their mentality is inferior, yours is superior, they need to rely on you to tell them their best interests
@HengartnerMP You have to say "so I can offer support people might or might not choose to facilitate full inclusion and participation
If you plan to trade on the ideology of "mental health" you can't just mane it, that's manipulation, introducing an unexplained construct as though it's real
@HengartnerMP You have to be explicit eg "I plan to offer you the ideology that your suffering is caused by Inferiority in your mentality and mine is superior"
But, can you even do that?
Isn't that dominating? Reducing the quality of consent? Playing on emotions to make people feel inferior?
@HengartnerMP So, the problem is the entire professions of psychotherapy and the entire lobby and sector of "mental health"
Actually need to completely change their behaviour
In order to be ethical
I don't know how to unpack that
But it's something they need to do
@HengartnerMP I look forward to seeing people such as yourself, read CRPD and it's Guidance and reflect on how they need to develop ethical norms to offer nothing more than will & preferences support free from any sign of manipulation, deception, domination, deprivation of options
@HengartnerMP Free from best interests, free from any trick or allusion to undermine the quality of consent & reduce a person's autonomy or individual rights and choices: will and preferences
That's the work you ought to have been doing for some time
same dirty tricks are played in research
@HengartnerMP If unwilling to engage in this ethical reflection @HengartnerMP
I really need to ask you, human to human
What are your *real* motivations for becoming a psychotherapist?
Do you even know them yourself?
#justsaying 🤷🏻‍♀️

@1s2atomexit Yes, it should
ethical norms of psychiatry & psychology, counseling too
The entire, so called, "mental health" sector, need to be rewritten
In fact, there shouldn't be a "mental health" sector, at all
That in itself is manipulation, deception, domination, deprivation of options
@1s2atomexit The very first step for anyone who decided to seek support for some temporarily or long term circumstances they are finding disabling should be to be fully informed of their rights under CRPD Guidance, to ensure they understand them
@1s2atomexit Every guilds offerings, constructs etc need to be presented fully and honestly, as nothing more than optional constructs & ideally there should be *independent* deceion making support available to decide what things people wish to choose

@12butterflysfly @DrJessTaylor @Jaimi_Shrive Where do I start?
Perhaps it's easier to start by explaining what should be met?
CRPD was ratified by UK around 2010
International disability alliance was funded by several ratifying states to draft recommended steps after Ratification
internationaldisabilityalliance.org/resources/step…
@12butterflysfly @DrJessTaylor @Jaimi_Shrive By now, every stakeholder (anyone who may affect or be affected by policy) should know & understand their individual rights under CRPD guidance, their consequent responsibilities to respect others' rights
should understand the spirit too: individual rights, not "best interests"
@12butterflysfly @DrJessTaylor @Jaimi_Shrive So there should be a really careful and transparent process that all people providing disability services
Those services people with disabilities might choose to use in exercising their individual right to support for full inclusion & participation

@justamom1st @1s2atomexit Actually, people have the right to freedom of thought and belief
So they can choose any religion, philosophy or ideology they like to make sense of their own psyche
This right has historically been deprived from people with disabilities
@justamom1st @1s2atomexit So we negotiated the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, a multilateral UN treaty that has now been ratified by 80% of the UN
A treaty like this is a promise by ratifying states to stop discriminating against people with perceived or actual disability
@justamom1st @1s2atomexit What is disability? Good question. The #UNCRPD preamble specifically states that disability is not defined because it is an evolving construct however CRPD has been negotiated to implement the rights based model of disability

@jonathanstea @SameiHuda I think problem, whether psychologists or anybody else, is that we have not had any space to logically, fairly, and reasonably discuss the complex issues of the balancing of rights and responsibilities in an unprecedented pandemic. Furthermore vaccines have been overrelied upon
@jonathanstea @SameiHuda In wealthy, developed countries, there was no excuse not to use border control, quarrantine and a host of other measures to stamp the virus out, with vaccines & subsequent medicine technology forming one tool in a toolbox based on traditional safety management
@jonathanstea @SameiHuda ( like in other controlled diseases)
Antivaxx propaganda been run on a pyramid scheme of manipulation, has been arrogance and theorising by people who have no idea how these manipulation pyramids work, or are themselves perpetrators (or victims, or both) of them in other domains

@ClinpsychLucy @CMHLvic I'm disgusted @ClinpsychLucy
You flew to my country& state of origin
Specifically to work on ingratiating your ridiculous framework
With people who have not got their head around CRPD rights or its importance
That's an act of power against a marginalised diverse group of people
@ClinpsychLucy @CMHLvic We need these actors focused on understanding our painstakingly negotiated human rights treaty guidance & the wise and considered steps and guidance for its implementation, to bring Psychosocial disability in line w/ wider disability in understanding of rights & responsibilities
@ClinpsychLucy @CMHLvic There is a world of marginalisation, that unfortunately even our representatives and representative structures are not fully understanding.
It's incredibly difficult to have conversations about it, too
Because it's easily misinterpreted
There's already been a difficulty

@threadreaderapp @Exnihil80688795 @Rufusmay Because if you *do* mean to imply jumping up and down trying to get people to understand & respect rights is pushing individual "view" or "belief"
Really saying we *don't* respect needs or viewpoints of anyone but our group & when people ask us to, we regard then as an imposition
@threadreaderapp @Exnihil80688795 @Rufusmay Why do you think people have to jump up and down?
If not purely because not only are their own needs, will & preferences being respected, but there's a whole system of marginalisation, wherein if you are similar enough to get accepted into one of the cliques you get heard there
@threadreaderapp @Exnihil80688795 @Rufusmay So long as you keep your needs concealed and only express those narrow enough to fit the group persona, and the group's narrow little focus on piddling places of inclusion in the context of a society excluding & gatekeeping by design
And so long as you are willing to shun
