Dear CDC—🇬🇧@UKHSA requires not just 1 test but **2 negative** #COVID19 tests in order to exist isolation before 10 days. But somehow a 5 day exit with 0 negative test is okay in 🇺🇸? American exceptionalism does not apply to a pandemic virus.

2) All the while, cases surging nationwide and worldwide. I get the (obvious) motivation to get business back to work—but c’mon this lackadaisical pandemic management approach will only PROLONG the pandemic and worsen the transmission and hospital system crisis longer!
3) There is also the issue of the reliability of an honor system and trust in the right human behavior during a pandemic. We all know that has not worked well at all during COVID given how many don’t protect themselves or others. The public doesn’t trust others to be truthful…

5) In both NYC and England (Omicron epicenters) kids hospitalizations for #COVID19 are spiking… these are weekly averages, so real trends, not just daily variability. All time pandemic high kids hospital admissions in England! We need to be extra vigilant not lackadaisical CDC!
6) Let this sink in—why would NY issue a priority health advisory about kids hospitalizations surge on Christmas 🎄 Eve of all times — unless it was urgent!?! So why the heck relax rules now???
7) Folks - Dr Mokdad is not just a random long-time former CDC epidemiologist - he is the former chief of behavioral health epidemiology at the CDC- and even he thinks what the @CDCgov is doing is “careless and reckless”!!! Hope that sinks in with the @CDCDirector.
8) This pandemic has blurred the lines of who is more trustworthy. I’d rather trust the unfettered opinion of ex-CDC Chief behavioral epidemiologist @AliHMokdad over politically influenced @CDCDirector right now. And I trust @PeterHotez & @michaelmina_lab over @CDCgov as well.
9) Day 0… positive… 8 days later… still positive. But under @CDCDirector’s new silly* rules… they would be able to mingle with others without any exit testing.

FLORIDA—Surpassing all-time #COVID19 high with hospitalizations surging like clockwork behind the case rise. Some claimed Florida was as “herd” and #Omicon protected because of recent July-September #DeltaVariant wave. This looks unlikely.

2) Other countries require at least 2 negative tests taken 24 hours apart before they can exit isolation. Self reported honor system is not used. And asymptomatic #COVID19 is still contagious— have we learned nothing??? See 👇 thread 🧵

BREAKING—The FDA just announced that rapid antigen tests are less sensitive for detecting #Omicron variant infections. This could mean we are missing a lot more #COVID19. I know many families with everyone having symptoms but many not positive. Oy. fda.gov/medical-device…
2) To be clear - we definitely need these rapid antigen tests but they should not give you a 100% clearance. That’s why you should test twice on two consecutive days, 24 hours apart. That’s why 2 negative tests needed in the UK 🇬🇧 to exit isolation. Meanwhile CDC says… 0 🤦🏻‍♂️
3) We need to think of rapid tests as like “leaf rakes” — they don’t capture all leaves 🍁 but if you rake your lawn once, you will capture most 🍁, and if you take it twice, you will get most 🍂 (cases). The solution is not zero tests— the solution is more/better tests approved.

📌Today—CDC will tells folks that you only need to wear condoms 50% of time if you have an STD.

📌Tomorrow—CDC will tell folks that you only need to call & tell 50% of your unprotected sexual partners if you suddenly test STD positive.

Day after tomorrow—CDC will say ooops. 🤦🏻‍♂️
2) the above is obviously a joke… but this crazy move by the CDC to drop isolation from 10 days to 5 days without any testing isn’t a joke…. It’s sick madness.
