Dear @CDCgov—is this woman safe to stop isolating on day 5? She’s got asymptomatic #COVID19 too—her test is so positive that her test is immediately positive under 30 seconds. But @CDCDirector says it’s okay? Countless epidemiologists are upset.

HT @gayle
2) Other countries require at least 2 negative tests taken 24 hours apart before they can exit isolation. Self reported honor system is not used. And asymptomatic #COVID19 is still contagious— have we learned nothing??? See 👇 thread 🧵
3) the CDC has a lot of explaining to do! Their new 5 day isolation exit policy without any testing is not science based. It’s business and convenience-based! @CDCDirector said it herself…. 👇
4) the news media is also forgetting to report the MASKING REQUIRED part after the initial 5 days of isolation as well. The @CDCgov has completely lost the messaging around that too!

⚠️CDC MADE IT WORSE—The @CDCgov is so out of whack right now—@CDCDirector quietly **without any notice** revised the unscientific 5-day isolation press release from just “asymptomatic” to “or symptoms are resolving”. ➡️Plus “resolving” is even more useless & dangerously vague—🧵 ImageImage
2) I mentioned this “symptoms are resolving” muddy nonsense… 👇
3) Yesterday I warned that this vague language will definitely enable if not encourage people to skirt the isolation rules. This will only cause more infections!

📍MISSING IN ACTION—It’s beginning to be suspicious how Florida’s governor has not been seen for 12 straight days—all while #COVID19 cases spiked 1000% (all time high) & hospitalizations surged & MAb drugs short—need leadership.
HT @thereidout @therecount
2) Florida’s leadership relying on mass-infection-herd strategy has been an abysmal failure. After every wave, they thought they were at herd. But new variants that evade past infection immunity has blown that strategy up. I worry hospitalizations will soon soar even more. 😢
3) Hence this is all the more strange that absolutely “NOBODY KNOWS WHERE THE GOVERNOR HAS GONE” says Florida journalist @grantstern. #WhereIsRonDesantis

FLORIDA—Surpassing all-time #COVID19 high with hospitalizations surging like clockwork behind the case rise. Some claimed Florida was as “herd” and #Omicon protected because of recent July-September #DeltaVariant wave. This looks unlikely.

Figure by @DrWilliamKu Image
2) if even England is already exceeding hospitalization forecasts, will Florida do any better? Doubtful. 👇
3) Will Floridians follow the CDC to the T? Or even take enough precautions in face of already muddy CDC guidelines like this??

⚠️FASTER THAN FORECAST—Surging 🏥 hospital admissions—England🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 now suddenly reporting a ⬆️54% increase in hospitalizations in one week… This is extra concerning because it is now notably **ahead** of @LSHTM #Omicron hospitalization forecast!

HT @COVID19actuary @ActuaryByDay ImageImage
2) Pediatric #COVID19 hospitalizations not just surging in England and US, but also France 🇫🇷 — well exceeding all time pandemic high in kids 0-9.
3) The surge in #COVID19 hospitalizations is happening across England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿- but especially the fastest in the earliest #Omicron hotspot of London. But all areas of England has hospital admissions clearly rising. Image

BREAKING—The FDA just announced that rapid antigen tests are less sensitive for detecting #Omicron variant infections. This could mean we are missing a lot more #COVID19. I know many families with everyone having symptoms but many not positive. Oy. fda.gov/medical-device…
2) To be clear - we definitely need these rapid antigen tests but they should not give you a 100% clearance. That’s why you should test twice on two consecutive days, 24 hours apart. That’s why 2 negative tests needed in the UK 🇬🇧 to exit isolation. Meanwhile CDC says… 0 🤦🏻‍♂️
3) We need to think of rapid tests as like “leaf rakes” — they don’t capture all leaves 🍁 but if you rake your lawn once, you will capture most 🍁, and if you take it twice, you will get most 🍂 (cases). The solution is not zero tests— the solution is more/better tests approved.

📌Today—CDC will tells folks that you only need to wear condoms 50% of time if you have an STD.

📌Tomorrow—CDC will tell folks that you only need to call & tell 50% of your unprotected sexual partners if you suddenly test STD positive.

Day after tomorrow—CDC will say ooops. 🤦🏻‍♂️
2) the above is obviously a joke… but this crazy move by the CDC to drop isolation from 10 days to 5 days without any testing isn’t a joke…. It’s sick madness.
3) Same @CDCgov energy as dropping the isolating rule to 5 days without testing…
