Kim Jong Un’s authority comes from grandpa Kim Il Sung, whose supposed military exploits vs Japan & US form the very foundation & legitimacy of the Kim dynasty. But Il Sung did not liberate Korea or defeat the US, despite what the #DPRK says. State lies undergird the dynasty. 1/

Kim Il Sung's official Eng biographer, Baik Bong: "On Aug 8, 1945, [USSR] finally declared war on Japan. Kim Il Sung, who had already completed his operation plan for the final decisive offensives against Japanese imperialism, immediately ordered the mobilization of all units" 2/

"...under the Korean Revolutionary Army. Under the order of the General, the units began conducting courageous military operations in many areas in North, East and South Manchuria and the homeland, together with the Soviet Army." (p. 529) 3/

"The Japanese imperialist aggressor army...was completely annihilated in a week, and on August 15, 1945, finally surrendered unconditionally...The Korean people were thus freed from the darkness of colonial rule" (532). Kim acknowledges Soviet support but no mention of the US. 4/

But Kim, in this biography, gives #PRC no credit at all for saving DPRK in the Korean War. Ungrateful. "During the Fatherland Liberation War, Premier Kim Il Sung...commanded the infant People's Army and the entire people with superior commanding art and operational tactics" 5/

"acquired in the anti-Japanese armed struggle, and mercilessly crushed the reactionary armed forces composed of 16 countries led by the US imperialists, boastful of its 'mightiness,' and the Syngman Rhee puppet clique...[the People's Army] badly mauled the large forces" 6/

"of the enemy attacking from the air and ground, and buried all of them in the mountains and rivers of the fatherland. US imperialism was defeated...[T]he name of Kim Il Sung, ever-victorious, iron-willed brilliant commander...became a symbol of justice, courage and might." 7/

Again, no mention of China, Deus ex machina to Kim Il Sung & DPRK. Bio 1st published in 1968, absolute nadir in PRC-DPRK rels, when China was calling Kim "fat revisionist" & NK was calling Mao "an old fool who has gone out of his mind." In sum: Kims' legitimacy is based on lies.
