So, did our Founding Fathers make an unintended error in designating state legislators, not voters, the power to choose our President?
Nope. Our founding nobility chose the nobles of each state, the legislators — all then landed gentry — to choose the Electors who would in turn, choose the President.
Indeed, if you are a fan of democracy, it’s hard to find a clause in the Constitution worth defending. gregpalast.com/what-do-you-ca…
What kind of “democracy” gives two Senate seats to West Virginia, an equal number to California, and none to Washington DC?
Let us give thanks for the Bill of Rights which put some limits on this Constitutional monstrosity.
So, should we junk the Constitution? Well, that’s a discussion for another day, probably another century. gregpalast.com/what-do-you-ca…
In the meantime, let’s start, today, with protecting the fragile little shards of democracy still left to us.
Take a Red Pill and join me in the future for the reading of the electoral vote. The year is 2025. It’s 1pm on #January6th and Vice-President Kamala Harris has begun opening the envelopes with the electoral vote from each state, alphabetically... gregpalast.com/what-do-you-ca…
When she reaches Georgia, new Republican Senator Herschel Walker objects to accepting Harris’ choice of the slate of Electors pledged to Joe Biden, the slate submitted by Georgia’s Governor Stacey Abrams. gregpalast.com/what-do-you-ca…
Instead, Sen. Walker demands Harris count the vote of the slate submitted by Georgia’s GOP-controlled legislature with Electors committed to Donald Trump. gregpalast.com/what-do-you-ca…
Roger Stone and Alex Jones, key planners of the January 6 Stop the Steal rally and illegal march that led to the deadly storming of the US Capitol, have been subpoenaed by the US Congressional committee investigating the attack. gregpalast.com/alex-jones-rog…
At the heart of the #AlexJones subpoena is the Infowars broadcast in which a guest host told Jones’ audience to go to Washington and “if necessary, storming right into the Capitol..If you have enough people, you can push down any kind of fence or wall.” gregpalast.com/alex-jones-rog…
The #Jan6Committee seeks details on Alex Jones' astonishing statement that the White House itself asked him and Ali Alexander to lead a march to the Capitol from the Ellipse where President Trump spoke to a rally of supporters. gregpalast.com/alex-jones-rog…
These are the only states that would be policed under the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act requirement to “pre-clear” new, racially biased, voting procedures, such as early voting limits:
Alabama
Georgia
Louisiana
Mississippi
North Carolina
South Carolina
Texas
Virginia
Don’t get me wrong, the strangling of the John Lewis Act by filibuster, unlike the overhyped For the People Act, could be the death blow to a democratically elected Congress.
In 2013, Justice Kennedy said the Voting Rights Act would have been constitutional if it didn’t target specific states, a suggestion from New York City which was then under pre-clearance review.
The Court of Appeals denied @SDonziger's request for bail yesterday — despite the ruling of the judges of the United Nations Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention ordering his immediate release. #FreeDonzigergregpalast.com/human-rights-l…
#StevenDonziger has been sentenced to prison for 6 months — punishment for winning a $9 billion judgment against Chevron for destroying the Amazon with oil sludge — and is currently appealing his conviction. #FreeDonzigergregpalast.com/facing-prison-…
I am in New York today, filming @SDonziger, whom the United Nations' human rights justices have identified as America's political prisoner and ordered his release.
Tomorrow, @SDonziger faces sentencing and could be given up to 6 months in a federal prison. I will be in the court room. Stand by for our report... #FreeDonziger
