Powerful and Continuing Nationalism:
The entire Fair Deal thing (panel, etc), equalization referendum, constant complaints that the federal government is treating Albertans unfairly. 2/20

Disdain for Human Rights:
Revoking protections for LBGTQ youth, messing around with AISH support/eligibility, closing safe consumptions sites... 3/20

Identification of enemies as a unifying cause:
The government does all it can to make everyone hate Justin Trudeau, the War Room has been trying to find dirt on environmental groups, anti-Chinese and immigrant racism has shown up in speeches ("bat-soup", etc). 4/20

Supremacy of the military:
So far there has only been Jason Kenney advising unemployed Albertans to join the military. However, this Alberta Police Force he is so hot for seems a reasonable stand-in. I would be very surprised if such a force were not highly militarized. 5/20

Rampant Sexism:
Quite apart from the UCP's attacks on female dominated professions like nursing and teaching, there is Kenney's firm denial that "man-camps" associated with resource extraction create a hostile environment for women, 6/20

then there's cancelling the NDP pilot project for affordable daycare and dragging their heels on signing onto the federal program, and the dismissal of a government staffer who complained about sexual assault. 7/20

Controlled Mass Media:
This is the case across Canada, since most daily papers and most electronic media are owned by conservative interests. In addition, Kenney has adopted strategies to avoid or deflect questions from reporters he doesn't want to answer, 8/20

and also ridiculed reporter's questions. In social media, which did not exist when this list was written, the UCP have issues managers and an army of troll-bots spreading propaganda and misinformation. 9/20

Obsession with national security:
Bill 1, which prohibits protests anywhere the UCP says.

Religion and Government entwined:
One MLA said he thought Kenney was God's chosen one. Kenney and the MLAs freely bring their faith into public discourse. Much of their policy is geared towards evangelicals, such as encouraging "parental choice" in education, 11/20

the whole curriculum they have designed, and sparing religious post-secondary institutions from funding cuts. Also giving health care providers conscience rights that extent to not providing referrals. 12/20

Corporate Power Protected:
Yeah, well, this one is obvious. 13/20

Labour power suppressed:
Bill 32, etc. Fights with doctors, nurses, teachers... 14/20

Disdain for intellectuals and the arts:
Post-secondary funding cuts, moves to make departments and programs funding dependent on graduates securing well-paying jobs within a certain period of time, cuts to funding programs for the arts. 15/20

Obsession with crime and punishment:
Cancelling the appeals mechanism for traffic tickets is the most recent. Also, the fervour to create their very own police force. 16/20

Rampant cronyism and corruption:
Where to begin?
-Harper and his son
-Panels stacked with friends who return the reports they were told to return
- Putting Mintz on the AHS Board
-$30M/year into the black hole of the War Room
-Allan Inquiry
- & so on, & so on, & so on... 17/20

Fraudulent elections:
Kenney's leadership of the PCs is still under investigation by the RCMP, he fired an elections commissioner who was investigating him, and now we have Bill 81... 18/20

which, among other things, allows people to buy blocks of party memberships for others without their knowledge. 19/20

The fascist scourge of Europe didn't start with death camps. It began with solidifying control and normalizing the supremacy of the rulers, placing them above the law and allowing them to do whatever they pleased. 20/20
