I hate how leaders are ignoring RECORD HIGH ⬆️ PEDIATRIC #COVID19 HOSPITALIZATIONS. This is not just happening in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 but also in France 🇫🇷, Spain 🇪🇸, US 🇺🇸 and more. Yet some dismissive soulless ghouls still try to claim kids are “practically immune” or kids 🏥 overblown!
2) In England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, where there is no mask mandate, cases among kids are soaring like bonkers. @nadhimzahawi - show some moral backbone and concern for kids. Show some actual leadership.
3) This neglect of kids & #COVID19 has done irreparable harm to kids. The soaring absences from schools in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 doesn’t lie @nadhimzahawi.
4) Even UK’s data on #LongCovid in kids shows tripling of #LongCovidKids in 6 months, and doubling of kids with Long COVID for longer than a full year!! And this was even before #Omicron! I shudder to imagine how many have #LongCovid in the next update after Omicron wave 🌊
5) Pediatric hospitalizations are surging in both older kids as well as youngest kids in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. In fact even more younger kids are hospitalized per capita than older kids. And it’s not dropping.
6) not just younger kids, but the youngest babies age 0-1 seem to have even higher risk! This was quite shocking but the data is pretty clear - and it rivals some elderly hospitalization. 👇
7) Meanwhile same surging pediatric hospitalizations of kids 0-9 in Italy 🇮🇹 - another epic record high.
8) Denmark now has completely out of control surge in #COVID19 hospitalizations — and the fastest surge among kids 0-2, now surpassing elderly!!! Let that sink in!
9) To protect kids, we need this in all classrooms to keep kids safe. Urgently. Like yesterday! #COVIDisAirborne

📌Not a good signal—somehow in the original 🇿🇦 epicenter of #Omicron, #BA2 subvariant has suddenly become dominant ~58% now, displacing old BA1 strain. Same thing happened in Denmark 🇩🇰 where BA2 is now over 65% dominant.

2) Recently, @JPWeiland used Danish public data and UK data to estimate that #BA2 is about 2x faster than #BA1– the original #Omicron, which was 4-6x faster than Delta, which was 2x faster than Wuhan. So yeah, BA1 is pretty fast and/or immunity evasive.

💡REVOLUTIONARY—I cannot stress how epic @costplusdrugs is—there are now >100 generic 💊 sold for often ~90% off list price (sometimes 140x lower) because @mcuban’s company has cut out profiteering big pharma + pharmacy middlemen. Generics sold at cost +15%. HUGE!

2) Example— @costplusdrugs’s imatinib is offered for $200 a year. Which is what it currently costs in India 🇮🇳. However big Pharma charges $120,000 a year, and even with Good Rx coupons is still ~ $2000 a year minimum. @mcuban has cut that down again to just holy effing $200!
3) that said, it seems @costplusdrugs can only do that for standard chemical based drugs— which you can easily make exact copies via standard chemistry. And he is just buying and selling authorized generics already approved for sale in USA. But not all drugs available this way.

📍PEDIATRIC #COVID19 HOSPITALIZATION—Still surging is hospital COVID admissions in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿—another new all time record among kids 6-17. However, there are even more COVID hospital admissions in kids 0-5, despite fewer kids 0-5 than 6-17. Let that sink in!

2) do we see this pediatric #COVID19 hospitalization surge elsewhere? Yes. Same pattern of kids in hospitals for COVID - especially youngest kids.
3) Let this sink in — even South Africa’s latest report is warning about the much much higher case-admission risk of #Omicron in kids age 0-4 vs delta. And such kids have higher case admission than even the elderly! The data doesn’t lie!

NEW—3 cases of the new #BA2 subvariant of #Omicron has been found in Texas. But it’s again being stupidly downplayed by @CDCgov saying it’s very low. But it was once low in Denmark 🇩🇰 too! ➡️Today—BA2 is now fully dominant in 🇩🇰—65% of all #COVID19 now! 🧵 washingtonpost.com/health/2022/01…
2) Denmark’s #Omicron was almost all BA1 before. Now it is majority BA2. The coronavirus doesn’t screw around. If a new variant wins over the previous — you know it is more aggressive in some way or another.
3) So let’s think it through — if BA1 #Omicron has infected a huge swath of the population already in many countries (DK being one of them), but now BA2 emerges & quickly growing— it must have some competitive advantage!! There’s almost no other way to explain sudden replacement.

📈RESURGENCE—Worrisome that #Omicron is somehow surging ⬆️ upwards again across Southern England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. London’s case drop has also stalled —now flat. Likely due to dropping #COVID19 mitigations & throwing caution to the wind by @BorisJohnson & @sajidjavid.

2) I’m not sure it’s #BA2 subvariant of Omicron yet. The sequencing of BA2 shows it’s still low in 🇬🇧 but increasing exponentially for sure. Many estimate it will be dominant in mid FEB in England. Someone to keep an eye on.
3) we definitely need to keep an eye on #BA2– the latest models of competitive growth of BA2 vs older vanilla BA1 #Omicron shows a ~2x growth advantage… even higher in England than in Denmark.
