6 y.o. Caden Joseph Quigley from Ann Arbor #Michigan passed away from COVID on Nov 18, 2021. He was born with hydrocephalus and spina bifida which made him more susceptible to the virus. #PediatricSoulsLostToCovid facebook.com/groups/4379000…
His mom wrote, "He wasn't eligible for a lung transplant from all his chronic illnesses he had & wouldn't have survived even through it."
"We decided to take the ventilator out as I thought he was just suffering & could see it in his eyes & have Caden surrounded by Family & let him pass peacefully & as painless as we could"

ECMO stands for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. The ECMO machine pumps and oxygenates a patient's blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest. It's often a bridge to lung transplant. Image
As patients awaiting lung transplantation become sicker, ECMO enables them to remain active and participating in physical therapy to prepare for the rigors of surgery

"There was a 99% chance she was not going to survive, which as a parent, that's hard to listen to," he said.

Donald said it all started on Sept. 19 when Camden went into cardiac arrest, quit breathing, and had multiple seizures during a family fishing trip.
"We pulled her out of the recliner and onto the floor, started doing CPR on her. I sent my wife, we didn't have any cell service, so I sent my wife to find a landline and call 911,"
